A moral dilemma

First of all, I never was, am not, and never will be a ‘bunny hugger’.

That out of the way, I was also taught to only kill at need, cleanly, quickly, and painlessly as possible. PERIOD

The one neighbor, and some of the other neighborhood brats, however seem to enjoy not only killing, but maiming and torturing any stray animals that they catch. poking them with sticks, pelting them with rocks, throwing them, cutting off their tails, putting out eyes, setting them on fire, shooting at them with roman candles, tying strings of firecrackers to their tails, even shooting them with crossbows… all of it.

Yes, the humane society and the state police have already been called - repeatedly. They claim that they can’t/won’t DO anything without photographic evidence. Besides, these monsters will and vandalize the property of anyone who they think may have turned them in. (again, it seems you need to provide positive physical proof to even get the cops to bother to even come out and investigate.) – Doing ANYthing, even just telling them to stop, puts our dogs, my garden, several hundreds of dollars worth of railroad scenery, and several rather expensive projects directly in harms way. I can’t afford to set up video cameras all around the house, but it may come to that. We also may well end up pretty much prisoners in our own home.

Rescuing the animals one or two at a time, without these people finding out, seems to be the only viable option that we can see. Even if we could technically be prosecuted for theft… We’ve found homes (far away) for two kittens already… There are several more (about 5) very skittish (tailless and scarred) cats to be relocated, then dogs - some actually belonging to these people, and a couple so afraid of people that they try to bite if they can’t run and hide.

Sooner or later we probably ARE going to be suspected. These people aren’t stupid, just twisted. Meanwhile, anybody willing to open their home and heart?

I have little use for PETA and other similar organizations generally but in this case if there is such a thing around your area a call to them might bring some “interesting” results. Plus it could save you from illegally “acquiring” animals that don’t belong to you.

Also did you contact the SPCA?

Those “parents” are raising classic sociopaths. It’s only a short step from torturing animals to torturing people, and that’s how sociopaths usually get their start.

Will try contacting the SPCA… since the local humane society was useless.

Usually, I would side with the property rights people, but nobody has the ‘right’ to abuse and torture… the only question is; Are we angels or common thieves?

The only people who will do anything about it is the SPCA. Local police wont do to much until their is evidence of who and what they are doing. The human society is a joke anyway. They have their own intentions. The SPCA will usually investigate it by watching the area etc… Thats what they are set up for and thats why local PD’s usually dont want to be bothered with that stuff. Try calling SPCA first. The same goes for hunting and fishing violations. Local PD’s usually wont bother with that its the conservation officers that the deal with that end. Let us know how you make out. I would invest in one camera overlooking the layout. That way if something happens you have physical proof and you can press charges.

I tried finding your local SPCA but seems they are part of the human society??? In NJ the SPCA has LE powers and carry. NOt sure if PA as that.

The SPCA in Pennsylvania is in Philadelphia, 300+ miles away. Sent their cruelty investigation unit people an email, but haven’t heard back, yet. Closest thing here seems to be a local ‘Rainbow Rescue’… but from what I can tell that’s just a group of several kind hearted old biddies, tho.

I have been captive on my own property, until I got a hold of a camera which records the yard. Funny how parents come crawling when their precious off spring are recorded doing $$$$$ in damage. The police will be able to do alot more if you have evidence. Get a camera on those trains!

Weatherproof camera that can also take video.

The full link didn’t post. Here is the link to the manufacturer:

Oh Mik, that is a difficult spot to be in.
Got some people I can ask for ideas.
You mind if I copy your text only to them?
No name.

Yeah, PETA might be a good bet, like Richard said.

Go ahead Scott. PSPCA investigator is supposed to be coming on Thursday… and about 4 other neighbors want very much to talk to her as well.

Meanwhile I looked into used 4 cam security setups on feebay… they went from OUCH! to OMG!!!

Mik,
Knowing somewhat the mentality of the area of NW Pa, do these folks have hair or are they shaved bald? Lots of “ink” and body decorations? If so tehn they are raising sociopaths. Just saying.

Like Pennsyltucky has a patent on those? lol. We got lotsa ‘wannabes’ too (the other term isn’t suitable for a family forum, but they are white folks that want to be Ganstas). We got Goths, and Neo-Punks, Emos, and Redneck Suthun pretenders, Video Geeks and Greasy Rats – just about everything you can imagine except maybe for ‘normal’ kids…
