Large Scale Central

A little Perspective

Ya know…we do lots of measuring and thinking about measurements when we build a model, but how do we actually wrap our noggins around how big or small at NG freight cars is/was?

Neat huh? That ET&WNC Boxcar 434 beiong moved from NJ back to NC http://www.tarheelpress.com/etbox/index.html

That’s pretty cool, Bart.
Do you know where the restored car is displayed?
Ralph

Ralph,

There is a ‘Tweetsie’ forum on Yahoo. You can find references and links there. Whole story on the restoration as well.

Bob C.

Cool. I would have been afraid that it would crumble shoving it in or pulling it out of that trailer.

Amazing! That’s a real eye-opener, for sure.

Wow, I was reading the website you linked which shows the restoration in progress, and they said that these cars were some of the largest narrow gauge cars ever used in the USA! And yet it was still small enough to fit into a semi-trailer.

I wonder how this car ended up in New Jersey?

And then they opened up the end of that car, and out came a 2’ gauge box car!

Later,

K

The NJ Transportation Museum runs the Pine Creek RR a narrow gauge tourist line, they also have a WV Veteran Shay that isVERY similar to the Bachmann Model…

Ralph, it says the Alexander Chapter of the NRHS, and they meet in North Newton…was hoping you could tell me!

They also have restored a Lawndale boxcar, and apparently their repair facility is in Oyama, NC

And the ET&WNC rail motor #1

Thats a great place. Its part of Allaire State Park. Usually once a year I get to go down Allaire for training. I always make it a point to check out the Pine Creek. Since I work for the Park Service I get to go inside and have free roam. Here are a few shots I took a few years back.

Ill be down their in two again. Ill have to bring my camera and get better shots.

Ooooo… I like that last shot of the plow. Might need to modify my lights to sit on a top piece like that one

I’m not certain, but I think one of EBT’s passenger cars is there. FEBT has been trying to get it back for quite some time.

“The Bible” says it went there…but something in the back of head says that it went to the Tweetsie from there?

Well if that’s the place, it’s still there. Last I knew, negotiations to collect on a 99 year lease that was signed long ago went south after FEBT committed thousands of dollars to build reproduction trucks (which are done now).

Some of us collect a lot of drawings and books with a lot of the data one is looking for.  All of it for NG (The Swiss type). :open_mouth:

Dunno. According to the bible it’s Combination car 16. Can’t see the whole car, but that looks like a coach. It’s got the right roof line, but the windows look wrong.

Hmmmm the sliding door could be out of frame, and I can only find one picture of 16 … says the windows were replaced several times…dunno…

Looks like 1 window too many in the photo.
I guess we’ll have to wait for Shawn to snoop around later this month.
