A Little ‘Dab of Snow on the Little River RR

A Little ‘Dab of Snow on the Little River RR

Well we got “our snow storm” for the winter this weekend. And while not as spectacular as some it was a chance to showcase outdoors railroading on the Little River RR in the back yard here in Clarksville Tennessee.

Motor Car #1 sets out to see the sights in the modeled mountains of Eastern Tennessee.

The logging crew is fast asleep in their skid shacks by the tracks as #1 chugs past Tremont camp.

Wish those guys in the motor car would dress a little more appropriately for the weather.

Hope you liked the pics.

Looking better all the time, Doc!

Up here, we call that frost…

Beautiful.

Looks great Tom. Most of our snow is finally gone in the lower elevations(patches). Higher up still a few inches. Been getting snow showers last few days. You guys have been lucky this year with the lack of snow.

Thanks Doc, great story line and photos, Railroad looks good!

Looks good doc. Hope you get some sturdier loggers this coming year if the crew sleeps in with that little bit of weather.

Perfect amount of snow - that really looks nice.

That is hilarious and it does strike a chord at how we in merry south-land respond to the white stuff.

For example, if this little bit of snow had occurred on Monday the schools would have closed and our local Kroger’s would have been mobbed with doomsday survivalists…it is unbelievable.

On the other hand our winters have been so mild here in these parts, for several years, that my wife and I are seriously talking up a train trip to see the really deep stuff and the real winter wonderlands out there.

Thanks for all the comments guys…what a great group!!!

Doc Tom

I need snowshoes to get out back, and nothing’s visible back there but more snow anyway… I’ll see my railroad again in late March, early April.

If I’m lucky and it’s not like the winter of '84…

I sound like an old geezer, don’t I?

Yup, I was still skiing on April 14.

All I can add is: You’re lucky - even your snow falls in scale…

No fair! (Wink.)

There are some advantages, however: we’ve got maple trees and it’s getting close to sap collecting time…

Lovin’ your pix, Doc!

The glacier is finally receding here on the Deer Park Central. I can’t see the track, yet, but I can see where it might be…

I just got back with the wife and kids for some maple syrup. The State Park by my house does maple syrup. Volunteers run it. They just started a few days ago. We tapped a tree and got to taste the fresh syrup. Love maple syrup time.

Thats why I like where I live we get snow on the ground for about 2-3 months and then by March most of its gone.
