Thanks for posting the solution. I really hadn’t noticed much problems with mine, but I haven’t ran it in about 6 mo because it is in the shop getting little things done to it. (detailing, paint, etc…)
Oh, dear.
You have encountered the dreaded crushed plastic sleeve fiasco on the drive axle.
Now, it’s been a while…and this is memory…my K’s are modified away from any Bachmann stuff I can…
There is a grooved plastic ring.
One per side.
The groove is to the outside.
These need to fit into the gearbox housing, AND the locating lug needs to be positioned in the slot…or, the axle locks up, won’t move side-to-side…and leaving the cover screws loose will adversely affect mesh, leading to eventual gear toot wear and loss, but more importantly, you’ll be out on the line with a flashlight and magnet looking for the cover screws that fall out because they weren’t tight.
Take the cover off. Locate the tab (probably half squished), and the slot, rotate to the correct position.
Those silly plastic rings are all the hold the gearbox to the axle…AND insulate each axle from shorting.
Best fix it now before you wear a hole in the plastic.
Ahhhhh, I have the grove lined up on the side but I didn’t realize there was a lug to line up as well. Answers that question.
Thanks
Terry
