A "lite" Consolidation?

I know Aristo has the new consolidation coming out, but its a model of a MUCH bigger prototype than I’m interested in. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

To give you an idea of what I’m referring to, here is a youtube video I took a couple years ago on the first railroad I worked for:

Can you rework a c-16?

What it looks like you will need:
Aristo c-16 chassis
Aristo 0-4-0 cylinder assembly
Older Bachmann side tank Porter boiler shell and smokebox
Aristo c-16 tender shell
Aristo 0-4-0 tender floor
1-1/4" PVC pipe
Plus some Plastruct sheet, angle, and strips, brass wire, and whatever cast goodies you want to add.

Shouldn’t take more than a week or two of evenings

An Aristo C-16 is FAR too small for this loco. She rides on 50" drivers, which scales to 1.72" in 1:29. The C-16 drivers are around 1.5". Best bet is still to use the upcoming Aristo 2-8-0, and build a new boiler, cab, and tender for it. She looks small because of her relatively narrow boiler (note the firebox fits between the drivers), but is definitely larger than what the C-16 would scale out to.

I’ve always loved the proportions of that loco. Strange I never spent more time down there, seeing as how I was only 45 minutes away when I lived in WNY.

How about starting off with the driver block from an Aristo Mike. I don’t know what size the drivers are, but it might be a good starting point.

BTW Jason, nice video. Now do you have one that shows the side of the locomotive so we can see what your project will look like.

Chuck

Does any one own a camara??

This works well for that, Chuck.

Here you go: http://photos.greatrails.net/showpic?photo=201007250125024583.jpg&order=byrail&page=5&key=Arcade%20and%20Attica%20RR

This a picture I took with my new DSLR last year. The engine has just finished pulling the last train of the day, has uncoupled from the rear of the train and will now back into its assigned track at the engine house to await its next trip.

Hey Jason,

Thats a perfect picture and shows everything. That would be a nice little build. I still think the Aristo Mike motor block would be a great start.

I’m kind of leaning that way as well. After Ben Maggi did those awesome builds of the A&A’s centercab switchers using the USAT 44-tonners, I’ve been really hell-bent on building a model of No18. While ten-wheeler No14 was the first steam engine I ever visited the cab of, No18 was the first engine I ever road in… or worked on for that matter. She’s a great little engine, even if she is a soak. During the rebuild, I tried to convince the powers to be that since new tube sheets were needed anyways, to have the superheater header installed on No18 to increase her power & efficiency.

Oh well, she’s still a cute little engine.

(Sorry, typo.)
