A Happy 4th to you all!

With the celebration of Canada on the first and the celebration of the birthday of the USA on the 4th, it is truely a time of celebration and, I hope, a little reverence for the wonderful life we live.

Maybe the swamp creature (Noel) hah will entertain us with some type of demo or small clinic on something for Independence Day. We Canadians, seem to have survived the 1st…Have a safe and happy 4th, you guys…

It’s been too many years since the last Ruby Family Fireworks Blast.

(The stuff gets in your blood)

Everyone have a safe and happy 4th.
Most of my family will be working over the weekend.
So I’ll be working on the RR.

On the 3rd, I plan to catch SP 4449 crossing High Bridge coming into Spokane, tomorrow, then catch it leaving Spokane early on the 4th.

Then maybe come canoing on the Little Spokane River.

Happy 4th, and not to derail the thread, but while you’re celebrating take time to thank a veteran.

Had a good 4th, a friend came over with some trains to run on my layout, we bbq’d, watched the city fireworks from my back yard(we live 2 miles out of town) and then shot off some fireworks that I bought, first time in about 10 years, that was pretty fun! Sorry, no pix were taken.

We went to an antique machinery show, then stopped at an amusement park that had been closed for some time, but has now partially re-opened… By fireworks time the girls were too tired to care, so they slept the whole way home.

We had fireworks again in our neighborhood, enough to recreate the Battle of Gettysburg on one street and the Battle of Midway on the other , all this despite a supposedly strict BAN on fireworks in our city, luckily the knuckleheads didnt burn down anything but - sheesh!!! I really enjoy spending every 4th babysitting my poor dog who really hates fireworks. So we sat out back with a TV set up to watch the PBS 4th show while my pooch cowered between our seats while the rebs and the yankees blew each other to peices a couple streets over.

Exactly the same here Vic. They shoot stuff so big now you can hear the shells launch a couple of streets away. Cops sit back and enjoy the show waiting for the 911 call they know will come someday.

Two years ago they busted the guy at the end of my street a week before the 4th. He had over $100,000.00 in professional fireworks in his garage. He’s not licensed and none of it was stored according to code. He could have wiped out a couple of houses with a carelessly tossed cigarette butt.

Surprisingly the fireworks was way down as I guess the locals didn’t want to use what little money they might have had. The casino’s did their thing as usual which is nice but it was over rather soon.

A few did some firecrackers on the 5th but it was all done and gone early. Not like the past tho…

Now the long wait till New Year’s eve blast.

From Lost Wages, TOF.

We went to the Antietam Battlefield. It’s a beautiful spot, and on the forth they have the Maryland symphony play, and the national guard fires cannons, and the fireworks come at the end. They have a tradition of playing each of the service anthems, and asking members of the audience who served in each branch to stand as there theme is played. Sitting on the hillside you could look out over the valley and see other towns having fireworks, miles away. Then at the end of the big fireworks display they fire off the three cannons multiple times. A really great evening–nice people, a great picnic, lots of bang!
