Large Scale Central

A guessing game!

Ever since I adopted the 2.4 GHz system I have been hanging out for a more user friendly way of controlling trains that uses the many advantages of digital proportional control you get with stick radios.

The stick radios actually use a pot connected to the stick in the TX to control the out going signal that controls the speed. The knob on this TX handpiece use the full rotation of a suitable pot to control the speed. This gives very precise control, one handed at that.

Unlike some of the Large Scale pundits that ask you to “anticipate”, I feel completely justified in saying just that. ANTICIPATE.

I surely will keep y’all informed.

Time for an update.
Here is a pic of the updated TX20 handpiece from Deltang R/C:

More details.

One handed switching control is a breeze.

The spring loaded SPDT switch sets the direction.

The knob controls the speed.
Front left button is an illuminated ON-OFF switch. Blinks during binding.
The rear left button is for binding and controlling a servo output for a Kadee servo coupler.

Front right is a trigger for whistle/bell.

Rear right is a trigger for whistle/bell.

Range is at least 100+ feet. A bit less behind buildings.

Can be used with any RCS ESC using operating program AV1.

Also compatible with any RCS EVO ESC.

Also compatible with pretty well any centre off ESC such as those commonly found in the UK.

New version arrived a week or so ago but I could not get it until last Tuesday.

Duly photgraphed and instructions written but could not finalise release just yet because of a computer gremlin.
Just as well really I suppose, as the Aristo situation is about the only thing on the net anyone is paying attention to.
Should be ready to make the announcement next week.
In the meantime a couple of more pics to whet your appetite.

Well, Tony, it is often said that if you are going to get into the newspapers for the wrong reasons hope it is a day there is a bigger story.

I wish your project well: it is always good to know about other systems - just in case the one you are using gives up the ghost.

Thank you Alan.
You may be pleased to know the TX handpiece is the result of co-operative development by Deltang R/C in the UK, who is making great inroads with the battery powering of H0 and N scale locos.
They make some really neat stuff for those small scales. Way in front of others who have the same idea.
