A groundbreaking new loudspeaker, less than 0.25mm thick

“A groundbreaking new loudspeaker, less than 0.25mm thick, has been developed by University of Warwick engineers, it’s flat, flexible, could be hung on a wall like a picture, and its particular method of sound generation could make public announcements in places like passenger terminals clearer, crisper, and easier to hear.”

Imagine the possibilities for us modelers! Speakers could be put on the bottom of diesel fuel tanks or on the underside of a steamer’s roof or tender! A peel’n stick speaker would be awesome!

Have any of our electronics gurus heard of this?

Flat electrostatic assembly… should be great highs, and will need a LOT of square inches for bass, could not make it big enough to make bass in or on our locos.

I have a set of electrostatic loudspeakers, some of the best bass in any electrostatic… and they are 4’ wide and 8’ tall… to make bass you have to move air, the piston and cone mechanism is hard to beat in small areas… and bass is the thing we are usually missing in our installations.

So, put it on the top of the cab roof, and great highs, add a conventional speaker in the tender for bass… that would work.
