Large Scale Central

A great tribute

It is indeed a neat video. I can appreciate the lifestyle, but I’m not nostalgic. I know for me I wouldn’t last two days cutting down trees out in the woods and living with two or three hundred people without a lot of conveniences. My experience is that a simpler life doesn’t necessarily lead to a better life or more focus on the important things. It’s just a harder life. Conveniences and even luxuries don’t prevent people from living a life based on values and family. But it’s good to see how other people live and how they’ve lived in the past even if it ain’t for me.

Me, I’m more into modelling mining than logging (although you wouldn’t catch me dead actually mining anything!), but there are some great logging layouts out there that’s for sure. Maybe it depends on where you grow up; there isn’t a lot of logging in the mountains out here in Colorado.

p.s…I’m curious too what the heck that thing is the gal next to the fiddle girl is holding?

ah, there isnt?

The Colorado State Forest (CSF) has a long history of forest management. An extensive harvesting program on the forest was overseen by Land Board foresters from about 1940 to 1970. The timber harvesting program supported several large logging camps, including the Bockman Lumber Camp. This was the largest logging camp in Colorado history and more than 100 men and their families once lived and worked at this camp.

The harvesting peaked in 1955 when almost 10 million board feet were cut on the forest. The level and visibility of the harvesting activity created some public controversy by the mid-1960s, and by the early 1970s the last of the lumber camps had closed. The State Land Board (SLB) contracted with the Colorado State Forest Service in 1986 to manage the forest resources on the state forest.

Well I stand corrected. All my life I lived here and I guess I need to get out to the Western Slopes more, expand my horizons! One of those website links of yours has a link to a list of logging companies, amazing:

And I ran across this really good sign which is all set for modelling:

edit: strange, but it worked.

Sign?

Beats me, Maynard…I put two different image links to the freight shed, but it repeats the first one??? Maybe I’ll try and re-link the image and see what happens?

What was that about ‘agreements’?

Thanks Rick for bringing this neat video to light in your OP, and Thanks to Joe for giving us ‘anti-social mediaties’ the opportunity to view it.

Hey! I am NOT anti-social, I just don’t like people.

I knew all along there was something I liked about you.

the first explanation, that comes to mind, would be, that this video might upset your tree-huggers… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Korm,

Fix your signature link.

i did try to, but the software does ignore my changes.

Korm,

Your code is not correct. It needs to look something like mine…

Korm,

As you can see, I can add your signature picture from this end just fine. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

well, i tried to change the signature. (thrice) - it stayed, as it was.

i tried to erase the signature - it stayed, as it was.

now i try to not care about it - it stays, as it was.

I get that many don’t want to get involved with social media and that’s their choice. There are a great number of Large Scale Facebook pages available everything from an Aristocraft Tribute page, USAT, 1:20.3 finescale modellers, and a number of buy sell sites for those who do. I find they are as helpful in educating myself about the hobby as the numerous forums. Great video, inspired me to get my Climax out and run a string of log cars on the indoor layout!

duplicate post

Must be a little heavy handed tonight getting duplicate posts for some reason??
