Just received my Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad newsletter and read that in October of 2013, the C&TS is planning to stage what to me, will be the narrow gauge event of the year.
To quote: “In October, the C&TS is hosting a large group of railfan photographers, including participants from Europe, Japan and Australia, for five days of chartered freight trains.”
If you’ve never been to one of these photo freight sessions, this would be a great one to attend. Riding behind all of those great D&RGW locos, then getting off the train to shoot photos as one (or two or three) under full steam charge by is a heck of a way to spend a vacation. Plus the scenery alone will knock your eye out.
In the same article it says that the Friends of the C&TS, volunteers who spend their summer vacation restoring and repairing the railroad’s equipment, have been hard at work getting enough rolling stock camera ready for a so-called “long freight,” which would be an incredible sight if they succeed.
I’ll bet I know one of our gang who will be there, right “K?”
