Large Scale Central

A first ... at least for me

Doodling along the T-C-H what do I spy … an all tank cars train. Whoa! Do a 180º turn and get back to the Sicamous swing bridge.

The Glycol Train

Once that train was past I heard this very strange rumble, didn’t sound like an ES44AC at all. Sure enough what sneaks into view … the Rocky Mountaineer with the usual GP40-2. More on that later.

Just wanted to see if it could be done…

Hi Steve et all,

Hmmmm … interesting. Yep it has potential, especially since it will go to full screen, too. Thanks man!

Anyway, here are a few impressions of the Rocky Mountaineer mentioned above. That wave, they put on the cars, sure looks nifty as it glides by. I really like the train being mirrored in the lake at the start of the Three Valley Gap sequence.

Now if I could find the right font for the R-M logo that would be even better … he says as he starts through his font collection (a gazillion in Corel, but…)

Thank you for posting, HJ.
Along with the Mountaineer, the scenery is beautiful.

Me too. But seriously, these are fascinating videos.

Thank you,

Perhaps not the snip, snip, snip variety with a gazillion different transitions from balloons to exploding rockets. That wouldn’t be my style.  BTW one of the common questions I get : “how long are those trains?” Well, relax and count.

On that counting part, dispatcher (or whoever) to the engineer: how many in your consist? Engineer gives him the axle count. “You mean there are 112 cars” “Yes!”
Seem to remember that the axle counting units have a problem with certain numbers, but what was it? and why would that not show on the dispatcher’s console? Help, senior moment!

Two enjines on the can train.
Musta been empty.
Was the front one pulling, or the rear one backing up?

One goes forwards, the other backwards, they try to find out where the train will split. :P :P :/

Great vids HJ. The next piece of gear you need is a parabolic dish microphone with rear noise cancellation. Those highways give you great access to some super locations, but they sure are noisy

HJ…another spot for photo ops would be the river rafting outfit’s campground just north of Lytton. Not so much for CP tracks but walk to the edge of the canyon (just outside the campground) and great views of the CN trackage across the river, some pretty rugged terrain for RR’s. Not to mention a great campground, good restaurant, pool and hot tub.

Hi Jon,

At $1000+ that will be a fair stretch down the wish list.

Possibly numbers not divisible by four :P But I'm no mathematician.

I’m pretty sure somebody would have noticed the the loss of an axle on a four-axle car without the help of electronics…

You would think …

Yeah they usually do.

I’ll add the “112 car” question to my list.
