A few things in the shop

This weekend I was able to catch up on a few things that were waiting to be done. I have a Forney they has some troubled valves and reworked them for Oring seals. You can see the original on the left and new on the right. The original design must rely on oil to seal where as no the Oring is the seal. Makes for a stronger puller too.

I also have a Roundhouse Taw that was damaged from the previous owner. The current owner was lucky enough to find one of the last castings from GRS in England as a replacement buffer but of course it is not designer for the Roundhouse. I have fitted brackets to the back, bolted and braized on then ground smooth and cleaned up the casting as it was very sloppy. All painted up and ready to bolt on to the 15 year old engine.

I also have a trailing truck from a Accucraft coal fired K28 that melted the nylon bushing on the wheels making it a rough ride. I’ve braized on new brass bushings and will be held with setscrews and possibly pinned after the gauge is set.

Nice work Jay. That Valve looks very familiar.

Well no wonder my Accucraft engines consume copious amounts of oil! No seals in the valves…

How about the pistons, Jason, any rings on them?

The Pistons have a Oring as a seal, the reason for high oil consumption is usually the hole drilled on the pipe in the lubricator is too large.

Nice work. What size o-rings did you use for the valves?

The Orings are 5mm OD 1mm section
