A dismal day

When did raw support get into PS? But few people have cameras with raw output, at least on this forum, the percentage has to be tiny.

Greg,

I am not a photographer, or a PS expert (or even a novice) but my understanding from professional photographers is that I should always shoot stuff intended to be manipulated in PS in RAW. The reason being is it give me the most versatility in manipulating the image. Now I don’t even know what that means but thats what I have been told and my camera most definitely shoots in RAW+jpg.

So if PS doesn’t support RAW and most photographers use PS then why would they suggest I shoot in and export RAW images if PS doesn’t support them? It is an honest question as I learn my camera and its capabilities and the software to manipulate it.

Raw support got into Photoshop a few versions ago. Before that you had to use a plug-in. Over the last couple of years Adobe has changed their pricing model and gone to a subscription basis. As an educator, I can get the entire Adobe Creative Cloud Master Collection for $30/month. Non-educators pay more and I am not sure what it is. Just went up from $20 the first of the year. Photoshop and Lightroom can be had for $10/month, although that may have gone up, too. Updates are free and come out every month or so. For someone who uses it a lot, it’s quite a deal …

As for the use of RAW, yes, it is a preferred format primarily because it doesn’t lose anything when edited. With a jpg file, every time you open and close the file, a little bit of data is lost …

BTW, nice job on the photos!

Depending on the camera, will determine which version of PS you need to use. Unfortunately I have to pay the monthly fee.

Devon, sorry for the hijack. Keep those photos coming!!
