"A day which will live in infamy"

66 years is less than an eyeblink in history, yet a long time in the hearts and minds of men. Many people who were there that day have passed, or will soon. As I posted on other boards, I really wonder how long the memory will “live”? Or will it soon be just a catch phrase to put on souvenirs or forgotten?

Our society as a whole doesn’t seem to think a lot about the past, and certainly not enough to learn from it. Most of the young people I come in contact with don’t care all that much about things that happened last month…unless it directly affected them…let alone stuff that happened before their parents (or grandparents) were born. Kinda sad.

Not to take away from the remembrance of the day, but if you look at a lot of the economic and nationalistic causes for BOTH world wars, you can see many of them resurfacing in parts of the world today. Can’t happen again? Don’t be so certain… that’s pretty much what what they said in '18

Yes, I’ll remember. But then again I’m an old timer that was born during the war. My Dad was at Pearl Harbor. He was a lucky one. But many of his close friends were not so lucky. It’s a shame, but I agree with you. The next generation won’t even blink about it…and go on to make the same mistakes that were made in the past. And unfortunately the next war will be even worse.
