Large Scale Central

A Business Car in Tourist Service

This is a model of a BL&K Business Car built for the President of the railroad. It has two large lounge areas separated by a bathroom.

He used one lounge for visitors, and the other end of the car was private. However, the car was eventually sold by the Pittsburgh & Western to a Colorado tourist RR, who installed facing seats and used it in tourist service. (It would be easy for a new owner to install fancy seats, etc.)

Most of that is conjecture of course, though the BL&K did build a similar car and sold it to the EBT where it still runs as #20. GAL (http://www.thegalline.com/index.html) had a request for a business car like #20, so I volunteered to put it together.

It was an Accucraft J&S coach, with three GAL kits added: the sides (complete with board-and-batten overlay,) some fancy ends with deep side windows, plus those snazzy railings. It’s actually for sale - I already have a Business Car. See http://home.comcast.net/~peter.thornton/kate/html/sales.html

None of the photo links worked.

Yes - I noticed. I forgot how to use the Myfiles links - where’s the FAQ?

I’m getting a weird URL ‘copied to the clipboard’ when I click the image link on the MyFiles box. I put it in the original. What’s it’s prefix?

Found one: http://freightsheds.largescalecentral.com - looks like there’s a bug.

Very nice. What color is that?

nice looking business car…

Nifty, I love the replacement sides for the AMS cars… great idea.

Ray, That's "Burgundy" from my local Ace Hardware. Not the best spray can - I prefer Krylon.

The gold stripes were easy - I found an extra fine paint pen at the artists shop, and it was a doddle as we Brits say.

Wow…that changes everything! Looks great, too.

Color looks great. Looks good

I’m thinking of using Rustoleum’s “Claret Wine” color on my passenger equipment.

What’s a GAL kit, If I may ask?

John,
Try this link. Pete’s link didn’t work for me.

I am going to go out on an limb here and say that maybe Pete should pay for a little advertiseing here.

Very nice, Pete.
Well above my budget, but I still appreciate a chance to see it

Randy…Bob doesn’t have a problem with it. No reason for any of the rest of us to worry about it.

Ray, I wasn't impressed by the Rustoleum spray can with its fancy nozzle. The paint all came out in a highly concentrated stream and was very difficult to use. Almost made me want to get the airbrush out.

Incidentally, if you want to model EBT’s #20, then the Scalecoat GN Green is a pretty good match, and is glossy too.

Randy,

Point taken, but I’m just the kit instigator/designer. Alan owns G.A.L. and, although he’s a diehard CNJ fan, he was happy to make the kits that I thought would be useful. (The business car idea came from another client, as did the RGS Full Baggage shown on his site.) I have to buy them like the rest of you, though I do get a discount!

I have a 2-door Baggage/Express car side kit on my desk to make up next. It is based on EBT #29, but can be made as a regular siding car to match the Accucraft J&S range.

I’m getting quite a collection of original coach sides - I thought of cutting them in half and adding a baggage section to make a model of D&RGW #212 or #209, but as Accucraft promises to bring their combine early next year, we decided not to bother.

Sorry about that Pete, I misunderstood.
And I do like what you have done, mighty fine looking Business car!
