A background painting....

Don’t know which category to put this in, but I guess here is as good as any. I’m painting a background for a friend in exchange for some RR work I’m not good at, so I thought I might post the project from the beginning just for the heck of it. It’s an odd shape background for an indoor layout. The first three pictures are the cut-out, mounting on a wall, and a block-in. In the third picture, the red vertical line is where the corner of the room bends at a right angle. Should be interesting to see if I can minimize the effect. It’s about four feet tall on the left and about eight feet in length, about. The only potential problem I see in posting this here is that if I don’t do a good job it could be pretty embarrassing!

The last picture is the source material; it’s the Scottish highlands near the Glenfinnan Viaduct (I won’t include the Glenfinnan monument of course).

So there you have it.

Can you do a radius at the bend? Might be easier to blend the change.

Whaddya get?

You not do a good job? Who ya tryin’ to fool?

I’m doing a backdrop, too. Just a generic mountain range.

Ahh, Ken; I can just see it…the highlands of New Joisey…with a wee bit of Scranton PA; all on the walls of your Garden Shed…!!

…another great reason to visit your place…without destroying a toilet, once again. Your hospitality can’t be beat, young friend.

I make sure you guys see only the successes…only me and the dog see the other stuff!

What is the media? Canvas or what?

Dave, I use oil paint on a fine-tooth (portrait-weave) Belgium linen. The colors are earth colors and white mostly so there isn’t much gloss to them, which would be distracting. No final varnish of course. If there is any gloss it can be knocked down easily with a cold wax medium, which is inert beeswax and an alkyd binder/medium.

Nice - keep dangling this skill and my family in front of me (https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
