765 on the move!

Heads up all! 765 has departed Rockport Yard outside of Cleveland. She is making the two-leg trip from Cleveland to Conway to Altoona today.

Be trackside or be sad. I’m planning on an intercept at Gallitzin Tunnels.

Have you had steam today?

Track the 765: http://fortwaynerailroad.org/locate/locate.html (GPS… Gotta Love It!)

You know that she could probably haul more cars is she didn’t have to drag that dang diesel tail weight along…!

Ya, but at the same time, even with 50,000+gals of water last year only managed to make it from Conway to Altoona. I suspect that she will be working the diesel hard this year to make as good of fuel mileage as possible.

J.D.

Do you know how close she will be getting towards Harrisburg this year? Altonna is as far as she goes south?

That diesel doesn’t hurt the ole’ girl. There is video of it pulling twice the train it’s own fuel and the NKP heritage diesel up the grade at horseshoe curve. NS said the diesel is there for extra braking and emergencies but the 765 does all the work. Kinds sucks they put the Pennsy loco behind it. It looked much better with the NKP.

No matter what it’s good to see it stretching it’s legs and doing what it was made for.

David. It will be going all teh way to Enola.

Original plans called for turnign the engine on teh turntable in Lewistown, however due to the table being out of service, thats a no go. She’ll depart Enola, run to Lewistown to pickup passengers, run to Altoona, up & over the curve. Through the tunnels, around the loop and back down to teh museum. After a service stop where the people can tour the museum, the train will return them to Lewistown and then deadhead back to Enola for the night. Came into Altoona last night (5/13) and is scheduled for Departure from Enola to return west on the 31st.

Fark…last Augusrt she was withion 500 ft of my house and passed right by where I now work…only problem was…I was in the hospital at the time…

It’s like a security blanket. Just in case something goes wrong also. Later RJD
