I’ve just started a locomotive build of an EM Baldwin locomotive in 7/8ths scale. I’ve become very interested in the sugar industry and the Austrailian industry in particular. I have drawings of the below locomotive which is an EM Baldwin 18t bogie locomotive. I also have a donor GE 45t that should work. There will need to be some compromises, so we shall see how that goes. My donor is now in pieces. Construction is about to begin. Bruce, could you tell me how you got your trucks apart? Do the siderods come off easily or did you have to slice them off with the dremel? 18t bogie EM Baldwin “Coolum”
Warren,
I cut mine off with a razor saw…but I’m sure there’s an easier way.
Probably not. Any time I take on a project, there’s never an “easy way”… So I guess I’ll go down and start hacking on the things. I need to build all new side frames.
Thanks!

Warren,
On the counter weight, in the center, there is a gray/silver plastic insert. Pry/carve this cover out and there will be a phillips screw that will release the counterweight and siderods.
I removed my siderods and installed gears with a chain drive on my 7/8th scale end cab diesel.

Keith,
Have you got pictures of your chain drive and the rest of the unit? Guys, it is fantastic. I saw it at York as it trundled along. But, of course, I did not got worthy pictures. Too me, it was the hit of the ECLSTS in 2007.
Keith, I know I would like to see pictures of it. Sounds like a really great locomotive.
