Large Scale Central

6th Annual Gateway Garden Railroad Club Winter Meet

Carlyle is once again the scene as we try to drag tourists and railroad enthusiasts into the area. Today is the setup of our weekend of fun and adventure. I’m usually not very good at “on scene reporting”, but I’ll try to be a little better this year.

Saturday - Record number of people attended and going from early morning to about 2230. Clinics were held through the day on trackage and some of the latest products on the market. The evening ended with pizza being brought in (16 pizzas of almost every combination), followed by a wine tasting hosed by Todd Siddle of Crown Valley Winery and a slide show by Bill Canelos of short lines and lumber companies of the Northwest. Hopefully some pictures will show up, I haven’t even had time to witness if my camera is in the area. 0630 and we are off to do it again.

Here some pictures Jan shot at this weekend’s event

Sorry guys, new way of loading pictures and I’ve got to farkle this out.

And while you are farkling…

I’ll anxiously await for your pix.

Well, I got one this way. I’ll get it guys, but it will take some time. This is Dale and Aaron Loyett’s new elevator and saw mill.

Here are Andy C’s new pigeons, I mean penguins, being escorted to edge by a couple of Polar Bears. Something about he is going to get a tape of “Happy Feet” to fight back against Doc’s Circus Music. This is quite frustrating, I’m not sure where the problem is, but by retrying the same procedure sometimes I fumble on to it working.

Ric, you have a space between the “080210” and the 001 which kills your link. I did a copy and paste and was able to see the pic. Now we need an explanation. It looks nice.

I see you got it fixed while I was writing this…:expressionless:

Our new leader, is busy creating followers that don’t talk back or challenge his ideas. Its tough being at the top.

Another view of the changing modules. Shad, I mean Bob, this is slow.

Mike’s Woodworking was a new vendor that joined us this year. Great buildings.

Young railroaders enjoyed the Southern Illinois Train Club’s set up on the floor.

The guys from SITC.

Bill Canelos shared some more of his 20,000 slides on Saturday night. Last year it was Vietnamese Railroads and this year was shortlines and lumber company equipment of the northwest. Quite interesting to some of us.

Done. Hope the pictures tell a little of the weekend. Lots of fun. On loading the pictures, I’m not really certain what the problem is, but things need to improve before “the Invasion” or I’m going to need more vacation to just load the pictures.

Bob says he’s trying and, for me, adjusting to change is always a challenge. Took me a long time to adjust to the roll up windows on my 2000 jeep over the vinyl and clear plastic doors / windows with zippers on the 1976 and now I’ve heard they’ve come out with power windows. What is this World coming to?

Bob says it is still “a work in progress” (my wife says so am I) and drops characters while transfering or loading. He says he’ll get it, but will take a little time.

I spent most of Saturday Morning repairing things when my TE receiver smoked. Once the sessions started, nobody wanted to run while there were people coming in, so I bit the bullet and kept running. Such sacrifice  I didn’t spend much time taking pictures. A beautiful E8. I think it’s custom painted.

I loved this tiny loco. Like a little jewel.

Another drawn to the dark side! He’s been asking me about my battery powered Annie for a year or so. “Can I pester you some more?” He asked. I answered a couple questions for him, and the next thing I knew, he was tearing into his.

He had a “Basic TE” he was going to install, but it wouldn’t work. So he pulled this original trackside TE out and set it on top of the tender. Visitors to the modular layout:

The guy asking the questions was Todd.

You touched something or changed something on Charlie’s Modules? You are new to this club?. If Tom ends up missing, we will know what happened. Heck, he doesn’t even speak to people until you’ve been in the club for 5 years or more. Your very lucky that he is not on the internet, much.

Looks like I missed a good one. Do you think you can do it all over again say in July? That way I will be able to make it. If not possable did anyone take notes I can borrow?

I got to talk to Charlie a little. It helps if you notice his shed is labeled “Alpha” and “Omega.”
