The Kaskaskia Valley Railway will hold its 5th Annual Spring Operating Session on the last weekend of April. That is April 28 and 29, 2007. We use RailOps software for the control of car movement and radios for dispatching. It is a weekend ops session with both days starting around noon and going until nobody is running trains anymore. Our goal is to run 18 trains to a schedule. Sometimes we succeed and sometimes some of the trains have to be annulled or extras have to be added. It is not really as regulated as it may sound, but there is lots of food and its a lot of fun. We also have a live steam track set up. If you can make it to 50 miles east of St. Louis, Missouri, you are certainly welcome to join us. There are usually about 35 to 40 people for the weeeknd. This year we even have two guests coming from Ottawa, Canada. For more information contact me at [email protected].

We are all waiting with booze baited breath, for the pictures and full report on the BIG BASH, and of course the operation, Ric…
Did the tea toadling Canadians get away this morning; or are they sticking around to avoid the work waiting for them here…!!!
Fred,
All the work up to now has just been preperation for today’s activities. We had a number of people on the property, yesterday. I was confined to the “Southern Divsion” (basement ops), but I was told it went very well. Flags are flying and we are prepared to welcome guests and particpants. In practice, yesterday, I was told 17 trains ran and 102 cars were moved. All batteries are charged, any track problems have been handled by the MOW crew and all starts about noon. People wanted to come earlier, but I asked them to give Jan until 10 am before they arrive. I have some pictures, but will probably wait until tomorrow to start posting, just because of time restraints.
About those fresh batteries:
The results are in. Buy Duracell, not Energizer!
