45 Tonner

The first of my 45 tonners is done, except some final details, lettering, and weathering on the undercarriage. Its mostly stock, with a couple hood doors open, and a plow on the front. RCS and on-board battery.

Nice looking unit, Bob…

Looking good

You forgot to install the diesel powerplant still laying on the bench! Nice weathering!

HAH! That was in there, but I had to remove it to get the batteries to fit right!

Looks good, Bob. Especially the plow.

Hey Bob,
Nice work! Did you do anything with the lights? Those are always strange to me. Anything to the mechanical side of the unit. Gear alignment or lock tite on anything? I don’t remember any problems with the drive trains of these.

One of the biggest problems in the stock 45 tonner is the power transfer to and from the trucks that is done with a wiper arrangement. It’s not too difficult to replace the wiper system with wire. I’ve done it on two of mine that are set up for track power. For battery it is easier as you only need one pair of wires. I took photos and notes for an article, but never wrote it up…

I also had some trouble with the side frame rubbing on the wheels, but that too was an easy fix using a dremel…
