4449 comin' thru our town

The 4449 will leave Portland, Or. on July 3 and tie up in Spokane that night.
She’ll depart at 9AM July 4 on the BNSF mainline heading Eastbound, thru Northern Idaho and Montana on her way back east.
(Just in case anyone want’s to get a glimpse of a fine looking lokie.)

You ARE going to take some pictures, right ??? A video would be even better.

Had a chance to climb all over 4449 during the Seattle Convention. We did the Rose City tour and one of the guys there invited us down to Brooklyn Yard to see it. Beautifully restored engine. Would love to get a few pix of it under steam.

Back in 1986, when we got back from Okinawa… The wife got back to calif after 2 months of school… she got back on a friday night, and saturday morning, the 4449 was running into Oakland, Calif, coming from Sacremento, on the SP mailine thru Dixon, where I had purchased a house… It was coming thru about 7:30 am, so I got her up, and we headed into town, to wait by the tracks…

After about 15 minutes of being there, she had a call of nature, and headed to find a bathroom… Of course, a few minutes after she left, you could see the smoke from the engine could be seen… 4449 came thru town, just a smoking, and running moderately fast… It was a sight to see…

She came back, almost thru a cloud of smoke… and I said ““Yup, you missed it””…

Smoke, steam, trembling ground… It was a thing of total beauty…

Nope. How can you see, feel and smell it with a freaking camera stuck in your eye? :) :)

I’ll set my video camera on a tripod and push the “Do It” button when I see the smoke.

Good plan, Steve! :? Let us know/see how it really worked. ;) :)

BTW I’m in the process of compiling a list of what has to be along when video railfanning. Three items that were added after the last outing: folding chair, clamp-on umbrella and binoculars (to determine if it’s really a train coming through the trees way off in the distance).

PS After railfanning the two mains (CP and CN) between Kamloops and Lytton, I now carry two tripods, the second one to catch the action right in front of me when I shoot the action across the lake or some such.

Well guys,
Got up and made it to the watching spot with about 1/2 hour to spare. Half of our train club was there clicking away as she roared by. As soon as a member sends me a photo, I’ll post it.
