4014 Big Boy already at Metro-link tracks

…but I was told the connection and move will probably wait until the commuter lull after Xmas.

Here are some pics of the 4014 now right next to Gate 15 next to the drag strip

here is the temporary track being laid as close as they can without blocking access

here are a couple pics showing some rust damage to the sheet metal casings and wheel wear

one things for sure, it will get a new set of tires all around.

This will be an amazing site if Uncle Pete can pull it off.

Hey Vic,

I hope U.P. has some security detail around that locomotive (while awaiting the move to the Metro Link tracks)…because that builder’s plate in your last photo, could be quite a temptation for some of the “yacka-hulas” in the area.

Tac I was toldto because of the wear when they move it to Cheyenne they will be limited to 25mphthis max. So the transit will take some time.

I assume the Strauberg RR in PA will be dealing with the tire ware. They do all the work for the UP on the Challenger and Northern. If you go ther be sure and sign up for the shop tour. They have both a 250 Ton wheel press, and a lathe big enough to turn 80 inch drivers. The lathe is pretty cool, the operator stands in the middle when they polish or turn axels.
