3d smoothing resin

New product just announced and released - shoul dbe a big help to 3d printing

Using 3d technology for g gauge trains is new and innovative I’m trying new techniques all the time. This week I’ll be testing this product as an alternative to bondo/joint compounds to smooth prints

Be neat if that works. Make more want to get a printer or have things printed.

My son could have used this when he printed this full-sized mask for my grandson for halloween. It would have saved him some time.

Mark, did that smoothing resin help any?

Looking forward to the results e.g. before and after pictures.

I have some of that stuff to try on the F40PH this weekend. I will probably post pics on my build thread if you’re interested. The mixing is said to be rather precise, so I’ve been waiting to have a good chunk of time between snow storms. I have an electronic balance for setting up the correct ratios, which seems to be critcal

Jeff,

Reading the 3D FFF Printer reviews, finish and resolution are, for me, two of the most interesting factors.

Using a MakerBot on middle grade of resolution the printer leaves a texture, which could resemble wood if viewed through the bottom of a bourbon glass!

Google pages /YouTube show a method of smoothing 3Dprinted objects off the machine by using heated acetone to 110F and letting the fumes do the job. They assure people that it is not dangerous…

Best of luck!!

Vapor smoothing with acetone only works on ABS plastic

For PLA plastic you can use tetrahydraforan, or you can just sand it, lol

I used to breathe MEK vapors when I worked on printing equipment that used MEK based inks. MEK is smiler to acetone. And it hasn’t effected me mu mu mu much…

PLA is pretty hard stuff! I tried to cut some of it with an exacto blade, and mostly dulled the blade. Finally used a Zona saw to cut something under 1/16th inch thick!

From ten feet, the texture won’t show!
