For some reason I just found out about the annual trip by ATSF 3751 running from Los Angeles to San Bernardino next Saturday and returning to Los Angeles on Sunday. Checking the website, seats are still available on all but Norm’s Tioga Pass.
Thanks for posting. I sent the link to a friend of mine that lives near that line. He’ll want to see it go by.
i was able to book a couple seats on the amtrak dome…the acoma and tioga pass are sold out la->sb
Will I see any of you tomorrow?
WOW… Does the tern “Hi Balling” come to mind?
Today was a great day,I was amazed at how many folks got on the MetroLink train as we made our way to union station, and of course union station was packed. 20-30 years ago, you would have never convinced me that suburban rail passengers would make a comeback in SoCal.
The ride to San Bernardino was great, as in the past we went down the center of I-10 right at 60MPH slowing down eastbound traffic as motorists paced the train. One of my favorite parts of course is the sound of 3751’s whistle at each grade crossing.
Once we arrived, the train was open for visitors to tour the MetroLink Operation LifeSaver car, Amtrak full dome Ocean View, Amtrak Amfleet Coach, former Santa Fe Acoma Lounge and former CN Tioga Pass Business Car. The friends of the 3751 were offering cab tours for a ten dollar donation to support the cause.
BNSF had a brand new hi-rail boom truck and clean but used gen-set remote control switcher on display. Plenty of mainline freights passed, moving America’s commerce.
Looks like the Railroad Days probably will get skipped next year due to construction at the San Bernardino depot. Apparently our tax dollars are going to double track the Redlands line from the depot east to a new transit facility on the other side of the freeway… And build an overcrossing immediately west of the depot, and fence.
