2026 Spring Running - Post Your Pictures Here

I’ll lead off this quarterly thread!

The rains across No’u’ea shut down the iron horse until today, when the work crews hit the main to clear debris. Here Rocky pulls a work caboose with an exhausted track crew and reefer of refreshments just as the sun appears at the end of long weekend.

It took Kid-zilla and I an hour to get a train running today. Next week, we’ll put the plantation tracks in order.

This time of year, with the daisies in bloom, we don’t always put out our buildings. This is where the town of Haluku’ilio would be. For now, we are enjoying the change of scenery! The foreground plant is a native, Pa’u o Hi’iaka (skirt of Hi’iaka). Hi’iaka, incidentally, is Pele’s sister.

A short run this morning to start getting things ready for the season.

#22 Has the early morning milk run. Picking up milk and cream cans at Flaiz Dairy then running up to Hyampom to drop off freight then returning to the Redding yards and dropping the refer at McColls creamery for processing.

Pretty quiet on the SC&M. You may recall we had the snow and ice storm of the century (so far) last Jan/Feb. I hired guys to dig out the paths and vehicles, and it seemed they piled ice and snow on the ladder roadbed, which sunk! (Frost heave can bring it up, but not this time).
Some levers and jacks and it returned to it’s proper orientation. Ran my good old NW 2 to verify track integrity.

While most of the railroad has emerged, Ames slide is still blocking the way. no trains today.

I did attend the steam up at the North Carolina Transportation Museum, Spencer NC, first week of March, and it was certainly great fun. So here are a few shots of my WM Decapos coal drag and the 13 Ton Shay from Accucraft with a sugar cane car train.

Nice to see some Amtrak on the end.

Naw, that’s just the Granite Canyon reflecting the Colorado sun. Looks like this up close:

Nary a red or blue stripe in sight!

Cheers,

It’s usually pleasant here in Southern California. A friend brought his Emma Nevada by and I had some fun with my haze machine for some fun springtime stills
