Whew … culture above and tedious below…

As Vic is my inspiration … cleaning rock is boring…
On the left; 1/3 and 2/3rds, in the center non split tiles included to make bulk, polished both sides floor in foyer, angles for foundation corners and on the right cleaned building tiles… The tin fits the space and volunteered to be the base. I’m trying a build in a box to keep the outside smoother and letting the inside deal with the thickness variations, I shall see…
And because our shops are a thing of curiosity I offer 1/2 of my shop; the Lapidary side …

Yep clean enough to eat off of!
As soon as my rock is dry and I’ve had a late lunch, I’m launching my build!
Sharp eyes will notice that I tried being a distributor of Taylor Doors, but still have 3 of the 4 I took as a try out… Inventory will shrink methinks.
Oh one slight change … In California my RR was The Lagunatic and West Urn. Since I’ve been in Az we acquired the East Urn mine and decided to connect the 2 with a 500 mile branch line AND we are becoming a Scenic RR since the Unobtanium morphs to Leverite during smelting, we couldn’t even get the gov’t to buy it, go figure, I know? So anyway the assay office will be a roofless ghost of itself, but the tourists eat it up…
Thanks for bearing with me …
No nap???

About 2 hours worth of intensive pondering and mortaring the stones … perched on my high chair instead of my luxurious Comiskey Park chair, oh the sacrifices!
And the race is on …
2 more hours …

I turned it around and added the inner wall and gave it a stone counter. The customer area will have a stone floor and the work side a dirt floor. The stone floor will be higher so stone steps outside are on the brain.
I’m out of thirds so I’ll be cutting more tiles.
As it dries it’s rather sturdy.
More to come.
Looks to be a tedious process, John, but looks damn good. I’m anxious to see the end result. What are you using for mortar?

Knowing what I know now … I must clean the other half left…
I’m using a sanded Ceramic Tile Caulk, fits a standard caulking gun. Applied with a long thin putty knife; one end and the bottom, place and push down, next.
Last night I spent an hour cutting more thirds …
I need to make wooden frames for the window screening and assayer’s office access screening… oh and the oven…
I think real size would be faster!
Thanks
Thats looking awesome John
It is way pretty, John! What is the flooring going to be?
In 2009 a new Clive Cussler book on tape was out called the Wrecker. People in the challenge were talking about it and I always associated Clive with the builds.
I decided to replay the story and last night I sawed the thirds (helps to have a diamond saw) and this morning the first disc afforded this supply sanded clean. Both wall tiles and polished for the foyer floor.
Jim; rock floor in customer area and dirt around the ovens and chemicals, we get a special clean dirt.(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif) To make the bulk sheets of tiles there were many thinner, polished on both sides, tiles for the floor and steps.
Here’s this morning’s effort;

Just had a ham sammwich and they’re just about dry…
See ya later alligators.
I’m floored!

Turns out my long ‘putty knife’ is a dental tool, likely a mixing spatula, whatever, the waiting room is floored.
Pretty nifty, John!
John;
I have a couple iterations of your “spatula” type tool. I have purchased mine where artists’ paints are sold (in tubes). Those kinds of stores refer to them as a “palette knife.” Artists use them for mixing and blending oil or acrylic tube paints on a palette. One of mine came in pretty handy for forming the impression of rock strata in semi-dry plaster, way back when I was in an HO train club.
Regards, David Meashey
Thanks David, it says Buffalo Dental on the handle.
This blade is stiffer than my old pallet knives.
Be Blessed.
That’s just cool john

Thanks buddy, I can’t wait for my 5 detail items! Got to make 'em.(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)
I just found the wood strips I need for the widow screenings… I found some 3" square opening wire screen in 23 ga wire, way better than hardware cloth… it’s black.
The outside widows get the screen I’m using to build my mountain. It’s galvanized and I have some Muriatic acid to fast rust it… plenty of time…
A couple of different views;

Above you can see the raised floor. When the monsoons pour the prospectors are happy to have dry boots. That’s also the reason for
the foundation course of white stones. The dirt floor will cover the white course.

See you tomorrow.
The rock work on this is just totally cool. By far one of the neatest techniques I have seen. i have seen the tile stones used before but not is such depth. It looks like the real deal a cut stone building.
I assume I know the answer but why are you building it in a box. Is this to help get it all straight and square?
Edited to say i went back and reread your description and answered my own question.
Inspiration:

While the above has been dressed up for a commercial ghost town, I did like the wire screen for security … I got lucky and bought a house vent cover at the despot on the day I was buying junk for the junk box of the challenge … on the back, the anti bug screen appears to be in scale!
Years ago I bought a grab bag of K and S brass shapes. Somehow on my main work bench I found a section of U channel and … I’m raising my mesh so that products can be passed under …
(https://www.largescalecentral.com/FileSharing/user_2288/2020Mik/mesh.JPG)
The other mesh is from the front yard mountain build I have feets of it.I’m using it for ventilation and security to the outside and heavier to prevent injury on the hot ovens.
All the screens will have wood frames.
Tomorrow I am getting more tiles! Oh boy! You just don’t notice how many smooth tiles are included, until there’s a pile of unused wrong ones and not enough right.(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-undecided.gif)
I have the lintels from the foundation sheet of tiles and an idea (an imaginary napkin drawing) on the ovens, poor Luigi is getting skinny. Oh my.
On the other front, there has been a hiccup in my cancer battle, the latest PT scan revealed activity. The cancer board has decided that I need a new drug (song title) and maybe more radiation/chemo.
The contest has been good to take my mind off what I can’t change, only fight.
It’s too nice not to finish, dang my list keeps growing!
John, the stone work looks amazing. Very realistic … heck I guess it should look real cause it is (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)How in the world do you hold those itty bitty tiles to cut them? Do you still have all your fingers (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)
I hate to hear of your health setback, but you keep fighting and we’ll keep sending prayers. Thinking about you, buddy. Here’s your song …
