2019 NGRC Portland Photos!!!

Thanks very much to the two Gregs for all the pictures. There’s soooooo much greenery up there in Oregon! Time to start preparing for 2022 here in the Bay Area.

I, too, want to thank Gregory Hile for all his efforts he took to do the pictures.

Much appreciated,

-Ted

I’m no flicker expert… try these links, should be about 250 images total

greg

Thanks for trying.

The first 2 are the same and there are sideways and upside down ones too, in the other.

Is there a setting for Portrait/ Landscape?

So, first time to use flickr… you upload to something called a “camera roll”, all pictures fine… but you can’t share this, so you copy them into an album, and the stupid software turns some pictures itself. Really a pain. Also had a hell of a time getting all the pictures into one place.

Really stupid, but was trying to get them out quickly…

EDIT: I think I was able to rotate the rogue pictures… try the links now…

Thanks, looks like you got all of them.

These pics are my consolation prize for not being there.

Something about breathing, y’know.

Yer Pal

Many thanks for all those Greg, and they opened up fine for me.

Cliff

I will be going through them, and picking some out and photoshopping to bring out detail, especially on the ones of the heavyweights from USAT, etc.

In the near term, if anyone needs any of them in particular, let me know…

Greg

Both Greg Elmassian and I took many pictures of the tour sites last Thursday and Friday. I conveyed my pictures to Greg,

Maybe Greg will sort through them and publish them on his website or add a few to this thread.

Did you get to see that weed whacker in action? Was it for moss? Moss can get thick enough to lift wheels.

Weed whacker was trimming groundcover that was on both sides and between rails. The groundcover was a sedum.

I approached the host and asked him what he used to manicure the plant, it really needed automation. He got a big grin on his face and showed me his wackers, built by “miller” I think, who made some of the powered brush sweepers.

He had some interesting insight and information about motor speeds vs. the length of the growth.

Bottom line, large motor from RC vehicle running at higher speeds for short overgrowth, slower for longer. Interesting.

Greg

Greg what is the story on that smoke unit in your pictures?

Ahh, was found in the convention. Was in an Aristo Napa Valley FA-1… it was a dummy of solid plastic, with 2 little wires stuck in the sides. The “port” in the FA-1 had electrical contacts, but not the large holes for air and smoke.

I have never seen that, a dummy smoke unit and not-ready body.

Greg

Damn you got my hopes up someone was creating a new smoke unit.

That is the old style smoke unit, later models have the newer smoke unit.

There are plenty of smoke units available, but if you have questions, let’s start a different thread.

hopefully, this link shows all my photos: https://www.flickr.com/gp/78838185@N06/DB0wXa

(only half showed before)

Great pictures Greg! Love all the details they have and that indoor layout was very impressive, Thanks fro posting!

The indoor layout is so large, it has the “grand canyon” effect… i.e. when I first was at the GC it was so vast it almost looked like a painting and was hard to take in.

The only thing I thought was not good was that most of the lines around the outside were at 6 foot plus, most people could not see the nice buildings, I took the pictures holding my camera over my head.

I would have put them at 5-6 foot max so people could see them close up.

Greg

I agree with Greg, if Tom had dropped the line of site about a foot it would have made a tremendous difference in

the effect it has on observers. As it is now anybody below 6 foot in height is pretty much left in the dark on most of the layout.

Yes, but Tom must be 6"6" and it was his railroad.

John is correct, and, in fact, Tom was there and talking to people that day. I don’t remember the family’s name but they have a store in town and sell apple cider and baked goods. The property will be used for special events, weddings, that sort of thing. I did not meet them but I saw the son and waved. Others did meet the owner at the store and described them as very nice people.

Greg

Wow…it sold in April 2018 for $1,795,000…that’s a lot of cider and cookies!!

To really take the layout in you have to go onto the second floor balcony, I guess you would call it, but then you can’t get close to see the intricate details.

so from either view you cannot really take in all the details… that seems rather odd and really sad in a way. I had planned on going to Portland with my 5’3" wife, my 5’4" granddaughter, 5’8" grandson and I’m 6’3" so I would have been the only one to see a lot until we looked at pictures.
