Accomplished everything I can in the allotted time. Tight schedule this morning…oh boy…take pictures, post them here, get to Mass for ashes with my youngest son and daughter, take puppy to vet for final puppy shots, then off to work where I’ll probably be sleepwalking…no big deal, and I love it!, just another morning in the life of a model railroader!! Last night basically I finished off the stairs, built out the mine entrance, and finished and detailed the platform leading from the stairs to the mine. The stairs it turns out are 45 scale feet high. I won’t the able to take pictures of the platform attached to the stairs until I get them on the layout for the final pictures, but anyway here we go.
The first pictures show the final weathering of the stairs and the base cover. I have a little advantage here because whenever I’m in the mountains I pick up a couple of buckets of mine tailings from the various abandoned gold and silver mines around. Here I use them as dirt/grit and almost as a pastel stick to lighten parts of the stairs. The second set of pictures show the building and finished mine entrance, and the third show the mien attached to the platform and the finished platform.
That last picture is the final state of my work area after finishing all that I could and cleaning up a little.
It’ll probably take me a couple of days at least to get pictures of all the different elements of this build and to try to calculate how much wood I used. I know I went over the allotted 42" 2x4 volume of wood, in the 2x4 and in on-hand scale lumber, but I’m not sure how much, maybe 50% more. Thanks for looking at the pictures and following this build. I can’t wait to see everyone’s final pictures.

I can’t believe you caught that! Holy smokes, you must know your geography really well…I’ll bet you NEVER get lost!
Your rickety weather beaten stairs look great. I bet they would even creak and groan if someone dared to walk up them.
Final pictures update: Well, I got a bunch of pictures taken, then went to place the mines on the layout wall where they were to have lived so I could take pictures of them…but…but…they don’t freaking fit in any way. I screwed up my measuring.
It isn’t the end of the world; I’ll bring the two mines down to work with me first thing tomorrow morning and take pictures of them here. It isn’t like I won’t use them, but they won’t fit where I wanted them, not even enough to take pictures for the finals thread.

Nothing earth-shattering here, but I’m really getting into old fencing (which is free free free!) for certain parts of a build. It looks just perfect to me in terms of 1:24 scale and for the parts that cut to the original pine a very simple ink wash brings them right to the grey look. I intend to continue with this build, and I suppose I better start a new topic so as not to confuse anyone. Here’s a couple of close-ups of old fencing. To me, it looks very real.
