2018 Mik's Build Challenge WINNERS

AND THE WINNERS ARE

This years Challenge brought out the best in a ton of entrants. And the saying that everyone is a winner sure fits this bunch. GREAT BUILDS all around, and if any one of them would like to contribute their build to me, I would be proud to place it on my pike. All of them!!

The most prestigious annual award is presented in the honor of the build challenges founder,

Mik just Mik.

Is proudly presented to:

Eric, Keep the spirit alive!!

The voting for this years builds had a runaway winner.

The rest of the field had only a few points separating the next 4 places.

Each vote was assigned a value of:

4 points for 1st place vote

2 points for 2nd place vote

1 point for 3rd place vote

And the winners are:

AND THE GRAND PRIZE

Congrats to all those that keep the Spirit of Mik alive.

I’m honored to have gotten any votes at all, thanks!

And congrats to Joe, Greg, and Dan for their outstanding builds (as well as all who entered!).

And super-congrats to Eric. I love how you get your kids involved and turn your train into an edutainment experience. Great job!

BOOMER’S PARTICIPATION PRIZE FIGURES!!!

The figures are awarded for participation as either a builder or voter.

Winners are randomly drawn from everyone who fits one of the categories.

Here are the categories:

Mik, just Mik" - a 1/24th figure awarded from those who participate in the build.

Devon Sinsley - a 1/24th figure awarded from those that are entering the challenge as a builder for the first time.

Rooster - a 1/24th figure awarded from those that vote according to Dave’s rules. If you win this figure you have to take it, no excuses.

Here are the prizes, (sorry Dan, I did not realize we had a fourth place. I will make you a special ribbon):

And here are the winners of the figures: The correct envelope please…

“Mik, just Mik” Allan Bupp figure for participation in the Build Challenge… John Passaro and his “Stairway to Heaven”

“Butt Modeler” Devon Sinsley figure for first timers entering in the Build Challenge… Jim Rowson and his “Cliff Hanging Workers Shacks”

“Rooster” David Russell figure for voting and most Mik like use of a washing machine… David Russell, a complete travesty of justice considering how much he complained about the figure.

I will be contacting all winners to get your mailing address so that I can send you your Figure or ribbon along with a check for the prize money. (All prize money is kept by Boomer to cover expenses…there is no prize money)

Congratulations to all. The best group of builds and widest participation yet. Mik would be proud!

"Boomer

A real friend will share their only can of Vienna sausage with you. Let me know if you guys get hungry and we will bust this thing open."

While I appreciate the offer,I have a standing moral code not to get between a man and his Vienna Sausages, that’s a Sacred bond … (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-innocent.gif)

Congratulations to all the winners, and thanks to Dave, Boomer, and all who participated in this year’s challenge, builders, voters, and supporters. I had an absolute blast (in more ways than one!) and am truly grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the LSC community. Can’t wait for next year’s challenge!

Greg

I am truly honored! Thanks so much to everyone who voted and participated. Boy, the modeling was terrific and I am going to shamelessly steal a lot of your ideas and techniques.

This was definitely the most complex build I’ve ever attempted and I think I had one advantage on the competition this year - TIME. I am retired and was able to devote a lot of uninterrupted time to the build. I know that many of the participants had conflicting work, family and health duties that limited their time. Still, you produced wonderful results! As Dave said, I would be proud to have any of them on my layout.

Thanks to Dave and Boomer for organizing and supporting the event, and a big thanks to all of you for your kind words and encouragement throughout the build process.

Joe

I was remiss in my previous post in not also thanking Dave Taylor and the Boomer for their work continuing this tradition. Very much appreciated.

This whole endeavor was great for many reasons, including getting me off my butt, pushing me to do more and not settle for less, and most importantly the interaction and connection with the other builders, as well as the many advisors we had. I feel a lot more connected to some of the folks in this community than I was before this event.

Thanks to all who participated and kibitzed. Lots of fun (except for the stairs, I was annoyed by those!)…

Oh yeah, and I get a mini-Devon too! Waaaaay cool! Does it come with his new borg improvements installed?

It has been another fun challenge!

Now it is back to the indoor layout No rest for the wicked!

Thanks everyone!

Congratulations to all the winners. In my opinion everyone who participated is a winner. It took a lot of time and effort to produce the fabulous models that came out of this year’s challenge. I have enjoyed watching all the builds come together and like many before me have stated, I’ve learned many useful techniques that I will be able to apply in some of my future builds. Thanks to all of you who followed along and to all those that took the time to vote. I am truly honored to have placed 4th among this group. I want to say a special thanks to Dave for keeping the challenge alive each year and to Boomer for providing the little people and ribbons for the contest.

When do we start again? (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)
