Big one next year … so the “gang” is renting a chalet in the Valais/Wallis; just a hop and skip to get to the Furka Bergstrecke .
Back when they built the Furka tunnel - another 15.4 km bore through the Alps - the track over the top of the Furka was no longer needed. Luckily some of the rail enthusiasts were on the ball and preserved it as a tourist line, repatriated two steamers from Vietnam, two more came as gifts and one more is on loan. Collected rolling stock from four different railway companies (all Meter gauge) and set to work. Volunteers from near and far work on the project.
Should be good for more than one video. especially with steam powered rack engines.
So far it looks like a very packed three weeks; trains, mountains and hiking.
