Sorry about that obnoxiously large photo. I forgot which camera I had taken it with. Here it is again resized.

Best of Show: Dave Taylor’s caboose

Best Use of Materials: Todd Haskins’ switch tower

BUT they all look like winners.

Mik, I’ll post a better picture today.

I posted a couple more pictures of the camera car on “too late…”

I vote Dave on best of show…great lil cabin and I vote for myself on best use of found materials…

Where are the build threads and shouldn’t they be linked under the pictures? Kinda hard to vote on use of materials if you don’t know what was used

We're allowed to do that?

About the build threads - don’t make Mik go hunt them all down. Post your link here. Mine is here: One day project: Build an Aristo Wedge Plow

Since Shawn said he can't/won't, here it is:

These choices subject to $30 limit:
-FINISH a project that has been back-burnered for at least 6 months (like your hotel from last time, Korm!).
-‘Build’ a ‘set’ from your leftovers (any scale) and GIVE it to a child who’s shown interest in trains. (with pictures of the child receiving it, no fakes!)
-Build a camera car, and then film your layout with it.(MUST post the vid! - I allowed extra on this in case you needed metal wheels or a cheap used camera)

$20 limit on these:
-Build a rail customer structure/complex. (served industry)
-Modify, detail and weather a piece of rolling stock to match a specific prototype photo.
-Put together a mini scene that tells a story from your childhood.

No those aren’t easy topics, but youse guys wanted a “challenge”.
Since we started late, the challenge period ends Midnight Pacific time on is Sunday, February 12, giving you 33 days.

Standard challenge rules apply - If you already have it in your possession as of noon local time today, can trade for it, or outright mooch it, it’s “free”. Scrounged items count as ‘free’, but outright theft of them is strongly discouraged (ie, ASK!) If you have to buy it, the exact dollar amount (less tax and shipping) costs against your kitty. We’ll also exclude the cost 1 tube of glue, 1 jar of paint, and a pack of fresh hobby knife blades - should you need those.

Ready! Set! Procastin… err, Build!

All fixed as best I can..... Some didn't do regular build logs. Probably because I forgot to say they had to. (if you want to throw things at me, make sure they aren't too hard or too heavy... $20 bills would be great ;) )

Yeah, well next time somebody else is in charge... seriously. Too many forgot to STOP procrastinating this year, and it's too much like work to think up new categories for just 5 or 6 entrants.

Sorry I didn’t realise we had to do a build log on our projects. I had a look for progress photos but have none. The build was one of those quick things to throw together but it sat unfinished for months. For those that might have missed the explanation of the switch tower build when entries were requested here it is.
“Hi Mik
Maybe my switch tower would quailify. I started building it over a rainy stretch this past summer and got the basic shell done then it sat until January when I picked it back up, I clad it in cedar strips, made the windows, doors, chimney, nailed it painted it and there it is. The cost was cheap since I used left over bits from other projects both train related and not. The overall cost would be about $5 for a can of ruddy brown spray paint.
The switch tower was built to stand guard over my WYE which leads to a “junction” which is actually just a dead end track so a bit of imagination is used there. Eventually I hope to find a inexpensive solar light to put in the switch tower to give it a bit of life but for now there it is.”
If any one needs more info let me know.
PS. That is one sharp caboose by Dave Taylor.

I didn't specify, so you didn't.... Those who've seen the previous challenges assumed (as did I) that build logs, and bills of materials would naturally follow.. but the new guys didn't know that. So my fault, not yours.

i like the derrick and the baggage car most - but as they are not finished, my votes goes for the switchtower.

What are the voting categories ?

Best of show and best use of materials... And yes, you CAN vote for the DNF projects, Korm... We'll just subtract a few points for being slackers
