Second end wall taking shape. This one has some windows in it for the 2nd floor offices.

This ain’t like HO, On30, these buildings get BIG quick.
Interesting to watch the door experimentation. And Sintra is something unfamiliar to me.

I have never heard of Sintra board either.

The building looks great!

How does this stuff hold up outside in the hot sun?
What glue do you use to hold it together?
And… is this UV protected?

Sorry for all of the questions.
I’m just very interested in what you are building and how it is coming together.

Russ

I’d heard of Sintra for a few years, but never got ahold of any until Jon Radder dropped off some small bits of it in the fall. Its very easy to work with, cuts easily, and glues up using any solvent adhesive. I’m using Weld-on #16. I doubt its UV protected, but a decent coat of paint will take care of that. Should hold up outside, its PVC.

Edit: A bit of googling shows that Sintra is ‘UV resistant’. Its used for outdoor signs, so that’s an indication.

Here’s an engine house I made out of Sintra and PVC trim from HD. It was outside for a couple of years through winter (snow&ice) and was fine. Sintra is used for a lot of outdoor signs. The platform is made from Sinta as well. And all I use for glue is the stuff from the hardware store that you use to glue PVC pipe.

Coming along Bob

A link to Sintra’s web site for those interested.

DDDDDDDdamn, that stuff aint cheap!!!

Bob C.

Yep, and its available all over the place. I snagged a bunch off ebay in 1/8 and 1/4 thickness, almost 40# of it, for a bit under $100. Sign shops and stuff will have discards of smaller pieces, too. 5 minutes on Google will find lots of it.

Those prices may be a bit high. I get a 4’x 8’ x 6mm (1/4") sheet for $100 from a sign maker I know…but then again I know him. Can’t hurt to ask the local sign guy…

No, I got the equivalent of 2 1/2 4x8 sheets for that…seemed like a deal

Here is another site http://www.tri-dee.com/sintra_plastic_pvc.htm
2mm 4’ X 8’ sheet for $49.00
3mm 4’ X 8’ sheet for $62.00

However, this does not include shipping.

This does look like a great option for a material that could make a maintenance free structure.

Thanks for that link, Russ. Hadn’t seen them before. The whole “maintenance free” thing is one reason all my new buildings are some sort of composite; acrylic, pvc, styrene, whatever. No more wood buildings up here. I hate rebuilding them again 5 years later.

Top part of one side wall cut out. Clamped in place temporarily.

Looking good Bob. Can’t wait to see the window construct.

Yea, havent figured out what I’m gonna do for those. I hate making windows…

Hardware cloth?
