HJ, you know "long-range" is the span from when you look out the kitchen window to see the sun to the time you walk out the front door and get drowned in a cloudburst.

Ranges anywhere from 90 degree heat to tornadoes and high winds…

All will be well…The sun always shines over FRIENDS having fun operating a model railroad…!!!

We have had years that did allow rain, but we came through having fun at the museum watching a real Shay perform…we have visited a Pub where friends shared stories and enjoyed bheers from around the World. We always look forward to a great few days of renewing friendships, sharing great food, and making new friends.

The whole idea is to enjoy life with great friends from all over the World…and run/operate trains, with STEAM and electricity…SORRY…no track power…!!!
July in Ottawa offers generally Great warm weather…but rain does fall, and we can’t stop it…we learn to live with it and learn to be very flexable…We have never had a BAD “Invasion”. In fact it was speculated that we even staged a “Weather Event”, just for the visitors, several years ago…and everyone had a ball…

How’s crossing the border these days? I got my birth certificate last year, then couldn’t come.

Good question, Tom.
EVERYONE will require a valid PASSPORT as of June 1st 2009.

Mine expired years ago, so I’m forced to get a new one as fast as I can.

And to avoid any hassle, don't mention my name................;)

I tell people who want to visit the Botanic, “Say you know me and they’ll charge you double!”

A colleague says he’s banned from Canada. His birth certificate says “Lebanon PA.” When the border guy asked about it, he used his best Pennsylvania Dutch accent. I figure he’s on their “wise guy” list of people to mock if they come through again.

Less than 8 weeks until the annual event. The crew of the IPP&WRR are working hard to get the trackage and the new yard at Fir Grove in great shape.

There are other railroads we visit and the experience gets more refined toward those that enjoy railroads, model railroads - indoors and outdoors and the large scale experience. How cool, can’t wait.

Reservations have been confirmed. This is going to be great!

Thank you Bruce for the post…

YES, if you plan on attending; please book the hotel as early as possible.

We had our first official operation today and everything went VERY well. So, we should be operating every Saturday from now on.
I hope to post a final plan for the Invasion within two weeks. Everyone seems to want to skip the restraunt , and go with BBQ’ing here…we can still keep the idea of the Chinese Buffet as a Rain check !!!
The idea of visiting the Finger Lakes club is not finalized yet, and I will be speaking with John and Roger tonight or Tomorrow, to see how that plan can work out. The idea of dropping in at that great club, was suggested because it is sort of “On the way home” for some of the visitors.
I’ll get Doug to post a final draft of the plans within two weeks.

I’m kind of late applying for my Passport. I just learned today when putting together the required paperwork that the original birth certificate that I have is not valid for my passport application, so I must drive to Albany NY on Friday in hopes of being able to leave with a certified copy. If that works we’'l get our applications in on Saturday. The normal handling time is 4-6 weeks, so we should just squeak it in.

So, unless the US Gummint lets me down, there will be 3 from Connecticut (Matthew is reluctant, but we’ll convince him).

Cutting it close, Jon. Mine took closer to 10 weeks to get. 4-6 weeks may be normal, but with all the applications nowadays, it’s far from normal.

I know. Just gotta believe !!! I could go with the expedited processing for extra bucks. I’ll see what the agent says Saturday when we go in.

People have had luck contacting their local representative to improve the time of the processing. Of course, this is in the Land of graft and corruption of Illinois. What is considered the proper amount you are expected to tip a Congressman over the normal “pay to play” cost?

Depends if you want to be a senator or not.

Mebbe you could consider the “Enhanced” drivers license.

Is that like “Enhanced” interrogation?

Did I say that out loud?

Pay for the expedited processing if you want to go. I've even heard stories of the "expedited" service taking longer than 4 weeks. Ralph
