http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20090323/ts_afp/indiacompanyautotata_20090323144905 Tata Nano launches, at $2K the worlds most inexpensive car, why does it so remind me of the Piero Martini Cyclops S.P.A. from the 50s???
Am I the only one that can’t help but smirk when I hear the evening news anchor say the name of the car company?
“And now, let’s take a look at these Tata’s, my they are small aren’t they”.
Wow. And to think how much trouble there was when everyone was talking about Chinese made cars at $3,000.00. Disposable car anyone? Think about it. Why would you even think about servicing a car that costs $2,000.000? Buy it, drive it into the ground, scrap it for pocket change after the warranty is expired (if they have one) and get another one to replace it.
Jon.
Disposable car rather puts into context the average Indian pay . It takes 2 years to earn that , how long it would tske to save for one is hard to comprehend .
So perhaps we could throw them away to India .

That’s a good point. But what would it take and cost to ship one to India from lets say the states? Would it be cheaper to buy one there? I’m sure there would be some crazy export laws, fee’s and all sorts of red tape to get through in order to get one sent there.
Jon.
They are made in India, there would be no reason to ship one back. If I am not mistaken the car will never be sold state side due to it’s dismal safety and emissions ratings.
Hey! Check out these Tata’s! (Sorry, couldn’t help myself).
They should have called it a Fornow.
Test drives are starting to show up on Youtube

Neat little car!
Someone should make or import a model here, yeah like GM would have the brains to figure out like this, small inexpensive and efficient BTW…isnt the largest GM seller the cheapie korean import Chevy Aveo? …should be a message to GM in there somewhere…
I remember when you could buy a new 57 Chevy for that amount.
you could buy a 57 chevy new…
I din’t know that.
Sorry Dennis had to do that.
On the subject of non-starters , an American TV programme was shown here last night , entitled ’ Who killed the electric car ?’
Of course , I believed every word of it , after all it was made in America by those wonderful tree hugging people .
I did not realise that the US car giants were cheating scheming self promoting ratbags .
I shall never buy another Jeep Grand Cherokee as long as I live .
Actually , I won’t need to , it’s so well made . But I do feel ashamed doing 18 to the gallon . Or twenty to the Imperial gallon . Must get lighter boots ’

… so much for cute little fuel efficient economy cars… The three top selling vehicles in February 2009 where the Ford, Chevy and Dodge trucks, in that order.
Ken Brunt said:That supports what I've said all along. The automakers built the SUV's and trucks because that's what the public was buying. Ralph
