Large Scale Central

20' shipping container plans

2 questions:

does anyone have them in 1/20 - 1/24?

can they be made with commercially available plastic shapes from Evergreen?

thanks.

I think they have corrugated plastic, whether it is is the right scale is a different question.

Hey Doug, i made both 20 and 40 ft container boxes, i found evergreen did not make them big enough, what i did was have the measurements for all the sides, then contacted Russ from Tap plastics, and he cut them to a certian length, but they were the correct width, so I could cut the length to what ever I needed, saved me a lot of time that way, that way I had extra to make the ends, and they were then the correct height.

thx for the replies, I thought that might be the problem Tom, Do you have any pictures of your containers?

I will take some this afternoon, have to dig them out, lost all my other pics when computer went down, still building new RR at new house, have not unpacked train stuff yet, real easy to get to though, will post some tonite.

Hey Doug, here are some, made about 8 of them. Stan Cedarleaf and Del Tapparo made the decals, cut some lines in the sides to break it up, learned that from Marty Cozad, did different widths on the sides and back, made the poles from round Styrene and drilled holes in bottom and top to set them in, hinges are decals, 3ft rule, had some quarter lengths along the sides to help for support.

will post pics later downloaded them then adjusted them, now cant find them

Doug,

I do a lot of work with 20’ containers. If you are interested, I can provide you with the specification numbers that ISO containers are manufactured to. They are for the most part, a sheet metal fabrication with only the eight corner blocks being castings/forgings (I forget). Most shipping containers are fabricated of 10 gauge steel formed sheet sides and ends with reinforcing formed angles, channels and plates making up the rest of the main box. The doors are also fabrications of sheet metal and custom formings. I will look up some of the non proprietary information I may have and provide a link to the location where you can either download what I have available, or to the manufacturers web sites. There is some good information available on the internet with some judicious searching.

Edit - Here are a couple of links to get you on your way.

From my experience with shipping containers, the only part of the container you can guarantee is the location of the eight corner blocks. Everything else seems to be built with a rubber ruler.

thanks for the pictures and links guys… I’ve decided to build mine with some wood left over from another project. Pictures as I take them…
