Large Scale Central

20 Sept 2014 York

I just returned home from the all-scales York show. It was pretty quiet, and there were only @ three G Scale dealers. There was a running N scale layout. Friday evening was “Bike Night” in York. Guess: over a thousand Harleys Star Hobbies stood out quite nicely. Somewhat enjoyable, but not in the same league as the March show.

I to was at York today. I was not pleased with what I saw . As a G Scale Show it was not there . I will be at the March, 2015 show. But the Sept.,2015 show ? ?

It was advertised as and was an all scale show. I also thought “it was good” for the 1st one!

Sorry to hear the disappointment. I stopped at Star Hobby last week on my way home, and Dan (or Don) told me that the bigger dealers would not be there. I find it odd that Trainworld refuses to go, but seems to be teaming up with Scott.

Don (or Dan) told me that the Show Car for the Spring Show would be White House Applesauce Boxcar. I’m looking forward to the Spring Show.

Interesting, I went on Friday and very much enjoyed the show. Yes it was all scales and small, but there were at least 6 or more vendors selling G items, some new some used, some old stock. Very cool concrete and some wood buildings, lots of LGB, some good pricing. I snagged a few items on my list, and got a few cars, wheels, water tank, etc, and would have spent more but ATM didn’t work, darn! Friends I were with also did well taking at least 6-8 boxes each out the door.

Now I usually go to the Timonium MD all scale shows in the fall and winter (GSMTS) to get a train fix, they can be huge, but there was more G in the small York fall show then there usually is in any of the large Timonium shows, so I found it worth it.

Your mileage may vary

regards

Jerry

Please don’t get me wrong. I hope the show growes into something big and grand. That could only be good four all of us. I just thought there be more support from the G Scale community

I attended York a few years ago and was moderately impressed. I didn’t make any purchases. If I compare the show to the old Train Meets I used to attend in the late seventies and all through the eighties, it lacked something. Can’t put my finger on it though.

Dan, I understand., I haven’t had my toes stepped on, nor have I been elbowed in the ribs at a train show for well over a decade. Train shows used to be a frenzy of activity, people shoulder to shoulder trying to push through and snag a deal.

The East Coast show is the best show I have been to for large scale. Many of the other shows I have attended, have very little if any large scale. The local show used to have some large scale when Starr Hobby would attend, but even they haven’t come to Pittsburgh for a number of years.

Is the spring show still going to be a Large scale only show?

David come to the Amhert RR Socirty Show in Springfield, MA if you need a crowded show to get elbowed or feet stepped on. LAO

Yes

Yes.

The Amherst show in Springfield is an all scale very well attended show. USA Trains usually have a big booth with G and Lionel. I have attended for the last several years and only one was kind of a bust for large scale. I have always found a deal on something on the wish list that is if Larry doesn’t beat me to them.

Yea you have to watch out for Larry. One year he bought a PRR E8 right out from under me, and I really wanted a PRR E8.

No, wait, I was the one who bought the E8 out from under…

Never mind.

Dave,
You got the E8. :frowning:

Star Hobby, Jamies’s collectables, Kim’s Trains and a few other vendors now qre there all with G. Never know what you will find in used or one off at some of the dealers. One thing Dan Pierce and I have found to do is to look under the tables as that is where the G stuff is for a lot of the dealers. This past year a dealer had an old LGB Live Steam Nikki and Frank S. Hadn’t seen one of those for years.

You’re correct dave. To be fair, in those days I was into Lionel “O” gauge. More than enough to satisfy everyone. And there were always more than enough buyers making the rounds, looking for the best deal.

Hi Dave,

Your PRR E8 has the wrong color keystone on the side!!!

HaHa

Ed, its red with white lettering. So if its wrong, so be it. I like watching her run round the yard anyway.

Just to really torque folks off, I have an undercoated diner for that train, I was thinking of maybe painting the letter board in puke green and putting Penn Central on it.
