Large Scale Central

2 Bay in a Day

Having been blessed with a bounty of “G” scale hoppers, I thought I’d see how hard it would be to make one into a 1:20 2 bay cars. The bandsaw was the weapon of choice…Only went through two pots of coffee…

It lost three inches in length (but its still longer than my wooden ones) and gained an inch in width!

Looks like you widened the car a bit, too?

Later,

K

Bart,

Does the WCNG store the rolling stock on their sides like that to keep the roofs from getting as much sun damage.

Yep an inch in width was added…

The Boxcar was in the process of getting scrapped…it was turned p on its side to salvage its trucks and brake gear…

That would explain it.

Will there be a “How to”???

I recently did the same with a Bachmann 3 Bay. I widened my 3 Bay 3/4’s of a(n) inch. I also took off all the plastic grab irons and added ozark minitures details and kadee body mounted couplers. My turned out fairly good. I have 9 more to do while waiting on AMS to produce the EBT 3 Bay as well as adding a few of Bachmann Spectrums 2 bays to my consist.
