This began as a busted up Bachman Combine. The power truck is an Aristo. The prototype I found in my Railroads of the Civil War by Abgil (?). On the prototype the cylinders were mounted on the outside of the front truck. I did’nt want to try to make operating/moving cylinders, so I chose to model a different engine setup I saw online where the engine is behind the truck mounted on it, with the drive rods or gear drive run to the axle.

Very Nice David! I like it a lot!!!
Neat!
Nice!!! … I am starting to model some of the stuff from the Civil War era. I built a artillery car for the challenge. I am going to build some different cars for a whole military train… I 'm hooked on this car scratch building stuff now… Travis
Nice work on the conversion Dave. Neat prototype
LOVE IT!
Very nice. I cut down a BachmNn trolley to convert to steam. I want to install the steam engine but cannot find detailed pictures of the steam engine, Do you have any?
Nice job Dave. Now just install a RC receiver and a battery and you’ll have nice “travel” engine
Ralph
that car looks good. how are you to drive it? battery? if trackpower, how many wheels are for picking up electricity? another question: it looks so modern for the civil war aera. where did these run?
Yup, what they all said… great looking car…

It is good you like scratch build if you are planning to model Civil War era in G guage. I have found so little available.(http://freightsheds.largescalecentral.com/users/lastmanout/_forumfiles/FlatCar.jpg)(http://freightsheds.largescalecentral.com/users/lastmanout/_forumfiles/USMRRtrain1.jpg)

The prototype I was inspired by was photographed at the Nashville & Chatanooga RR depot on Church ST., Nashville, TN (National Archives photo) It was claimed to be used by the USMRR.(http://freightsheds.largescalecentral.com/users/lastmanout/_forumfiles/USMRRSC1.jpg)

It would need to be in a trailing car. Maybe a small Mail Car coupled behind. Right now it has track power pickup on all eight wheels, and she runs reeeaalll smooooth.
