Large Scale Central

16mm scale ex-SAR brake van scratch-build.

The real vehicle is now operating on the Welsh Highland Railway in North Wales, and was acquired from the 2ft gauge SAR NG line in Natal a few years back. The weather here is not conducive to rattle-can paint job, so I hope that I might be forgiven for showing it to you like this on its very first non-revenue run.

Anyone anal enough to count the rivets - each one of them applied by paw using a dress-making pin and MEK - won’t need to be told that here are 567 of them. Cambrian Models make 'em - YOU apply 'em.

I’ll be making another movie when it’s painted. As ever, the decals for this one-off are from friend Stan Cedarleaf.

The whole article of the build, unwanted by a certain magazine, will be posted on our own OVGRS website some time this year.

Tac,

very nice. it is great to see serious scratch building in any large scale. it is to sophisticated for a certain magazine any way.

Tell Ig he did a fine job…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Looks great, tac!

Great model tac. I love all the detail work. Hmmmm …567 rivets? I think I counted 568. You might want to go back and count one more time! lol (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Looks great! Now that you’ve done all those rivets, do you want to do the sides of the EBT’s M-1? It’s only a few (thousand) more.

Is the roof just sitting loose at the moment? I thought I saw daylight between the roof and the carbody towards the end of the video.

Let us know when the article is posted. I look forward to reading it.

Later,

K

Thanks for the encouragement, guys - much appreciated. @Ken - ig did some, and then gave up and let me finish off the remaining 565.

@Kevin - I’ve learned my lesson - it will be Archer 3D resin decals for me next time. And yes, the roof is not yet fixed - I’ll be using my usual elastic bands and hook hold-downs when it’s completed, rather like those used on model airplane hatches.

BTW, great shortage of Bettendorf-style trucks over here, not surprising I 'spose, this being UK. The last two I got hold of from USA Trains were sides only - they seem to have left out the bolster in the packaging. As useful as wheels as an all-wooden aquarium.

Really nice work Tac.

Beautiful! (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)
