Thanks for pointing the Budweiser model Boomer. I’m surprised to see over 20 unbuilt kits available on Ebay, and a number of built ones. Looks hackable for a Comstock-era ore wagon in 1:20, or just a good source for teams of horses. Just got one for $50 with free shipping.
I put on my E-bay watch list several of those Champion TT’s. Sure enough a seller sent a discount offer. I bought it. Today I get a refund, no longer available. Offer must have gone to others as well, I was too slow. I bought another, few dollars more.
Hope I get the second Champion spark plug truck. If I like it, the Ford parts trucks are listed cheaper and I’ll get one of them too. Might relabel it to different Auto Parts store.
Those Hubley kits were the only 1/20 kits I knew of and they are good kits. 1/20 is definitely a small club. I stayed with 1/24, mostly because the smaller footprint worked better on my smaller layout.
Well I still don’t have a Matchbox Champion TT. Second purchase, also the second cheapest one on Ebay from Canada is held up for import tax. Email states I need to pay $4.92 more, or pay at delivery. Get a second email, now they want $21.97 more??
Delivery rescheduled twice, no one home during the day anyhow. Sent an email to Ebay, that is useless. Thought the Canadian tariff was rescinding? Maybe they are waiting on that.
Update, 3rd Message from Ebay, now the want $52 more. Original item price was $32 including shipping. I an not paying $84 for this item.
Buyers on this forum living in the USA, should know now is not the time to order anything from a seller not in USA.
Can’t you refuse the purchase because it is not as listed?
i doubt, that he can.
tariffs and taxes are like “Acts of God” - unavoidable.
Yes, I can get my money back from Ebay, they favor the buyer. But, the seller states no returns, so they get screwed.
My though, offer the seller to return half my purchase price, I will not ask Ebay for a refund. This way I feel I am not screwing the seller.
Anyone have an idea about my solution?
I smell something fishy. Where are the emails coming from? It’s a pretty common scam now to tell folks they have a package stuck in customs awaiting additional tariff charges.
I would check the ebay listing under Purchased. There should be these additional charges listed in it. I’m a little confused, if ebay is asking for additional payment because of tariffs, shouldn’t it still be stuck at the border? How are they scheduling delivery if tariffs have to be paid? Shouldn’t ebay have held the item once they were ding for the tariffs and informed the buyer if they still wanted it with additional fees or cancel and return it to seller?
I agree with Dan, this sounds like a scam, which is apparently now becomming prominent with the tariffs. May not be, but sure sounds like it.
I’d ask EBay for a full refund, thereby prodding them to tighten up their anti-fraud systems. But that’s just me, after a beer…
Thanks Cliff. Here is the text I sent Ebay for the refund:
Ebay sent a request to me for tax due, $5 pay at delivery. Ebay sent second request, tax due $22? Third Ebay request, $52 more. So Item price listed with shipping was $32, add the $52 makes the purchase $84. I am thinking this is a scam? I did contact the seller. Seller told me to request a refund. This amount should have been stated clearly at the time of purchase by the selling agent, you Ebay.
I didn’t strike out. The third ordered Matchbox Champion Ford TT arrived today! I also wanted the parts delivery TT. I did not wait to see the Champion TT because of the delay. The parts delivery Ford TT arrived yesterday. Already have the new company picked out. They opened their doors in the early 1920’s. 100 year old newspaper ad:
You might know them by their current name. Reading their 100 year history is interesting too.
Good ol Pep Boys, I remember them from my California days.
Glad you got that model, and I’m hoping Ebay makes good for you.
Some re-worked artwork if I can load it.

Edit: Okay it doesn’t show unless you have program for the matrix used.
Thanks David. Do you have Cricut? If so, what model?
No cricut here Wayne. When I clicked on the link it gave me a PDF download file automatically. When I opened the file I copied a pic of your image and then pasted it here
