i doubt, that he can.
tariffs and taxes are like “Acts of God” - unavoidable.
Yes, I can get my money back from Ebay, they favor the buyer. But, the seller states no returns, so they get screwed.
My though, offer the seller to return half my purchase price, I will not ask Ebay for a refund. This way I feel I am not screwing the seller.
Anyone have an idea about my solution?
I smell something fishy. Where are the emails coming from? It’s a pretty common scam now to tell folks they have a package stuck in customs awaiting additional tariff charges.
I would check the ebay listing under Purchased. There should be these additional charges listed in it. I’m a little confused, if ebay is asking for additional payment because of tariffs, shouldn’t it still be stuck at the border? How are they scheduling delivery if tariffs have to be paid? Shouldn’t ebay have held the item once they were ding for the tariffs and informed the buyer if they still wanted it with additional fees or cancel and return it to seller?
I agree with Dan, this sounds like a scam, which is apparently now becomming prominent with the tariffs. May not be, but sure sounds like it.
I’d ask EBay for a full refund, thereby prodding them to tighten up their anti-fraud systems. But that’s just me, after a beer…
Thanks Cliff. Here is the text I sent Ebay for the refund:
Ebay sent a request to me for tax due, $5 pay at delivery. Ebay sent second request, tax due $22? Third Ebay request, $52 more. So Item price listed with shipping was $32, add the $52 makes the purchase $84. I am thinking this is a scam? I did contact the seller. Seller told me to request a refund. This amount should have been stated clearly at the time of purchase by the selling agent, you Ebay.
I didn’t strike out. The third ordered Matchbox Champion Ford TT arrived today! I also wanted the parts delivery TT. I did not wait to see the Champion TT because of the delay. The parts delivery Ford TT arrived yesterday. Already have the new company picked out. They opened their doors in the early 1920’s. 100 year old newspaper ad:
You might know them by their current name. Reading their 100 year history is interesting too.
Good ol Pep Boys, I remember them from my California days.
Glad you got that model, and I’m hoping Ebay makes good for you.
Some re-worked artwork if I can load it.
PEP Auto Supply Co_A.pdf (1007.6 KB)
Edit: Okay it doesn’t show unless you have program for the matrix used.
Thanks David. Do you have Cricut? If so, what model?
No cricut here Wayne. When I clicked on the link it gave me a PDF download file automatically. When I opened the file I copied a pic of your image and then pasted it here
Cliff, that is what I did and I received the refund.
Boomer, thanks again for posting this list of I/20 scale vehicles. I would not have known about them. The Champion Ford TT will be unchanged. The Ford Parts TT is moving to the paint shop!
Couple of updates.
Here is another offering from Matchbox. 1940 Ford Panel Van, These are not marked and often advertised as 1/18th. The box is unmarked as to scale. I bought the Campbell’s Soup and Police versions and measured their wheelbase and body height. The model is within one scale inch of the correct dimensions for 1/20 scale. Here is a picture comparing the panel van to the Ford Model TT.
There are three paint schemes I am aware of; Soup, Coke and Police.
There may be more designs and as with the TT the model is offered in other scales. I can only speak to these three since I own them. Buy with caution since E-bay sellers range from ignorant to idiot.
My buddy Ken Watson hipped me to this. 1940 Jeep Willys by Tamiya. Part of their Collectors Club line. Sorry all the others are modern race cars. This same vehicle is also produced by New Ray, Forces of Valor and Ultimate soldier in 1/24th and 1/32 scales. If not in the box make sure you know what the seller is selling. At $80 a pop it will be an expensive lesson in internet shopping.
Thats all for now.
Thanks for updating this resource.
When I started out I was running 1:29 and purchased a boat load of 1:24 die cast. I finally sold all of them off a few years ago. I do have a hand full of 1:18 vehicles that I scored quite cheaply at a flea market. None are pristine, but they work. Here are a few of them posed on the old RR…
More finds from the “Some Day” box.
BMW 750 die cast model by Bandai. Approximately a 1970 version. Marked as 1/20 on the box and seems to meet that claim. I put green man in the pic for comparison.
Also from Bandai, this bumper pull camp trailer. I am guessing this is typical of the late 60’s early 70’s. Interesting addition if you are modeling that late of an era.
And another bicycle. Roadmaster 1940ish by Xonex.
It has a companion piece, a tricycle “velocipede”. Very 1930s and marked as 1/20. However Xonex completely screwed up on this. You see the comparison to the bike. The trike is closer to 1/12 scale.
Finally, this wood model of a 1938 Piper Cub. This is a tandem two-seater used for light reconnaissance and transport. It was used extensively in WWII.
Manufacturer unknown. It scales nicely to 1/20.
That brings me up to current. I will keep an eye out for anything else.
Boom Dude, have you checked out 3000 toys??? They have a filter on the page to look by scale and they have a model railroad filter to narrow it down. Prices seem to be mostly reasonable , except if you are buying any Caterpillar diecast …. yikes !!! Anyway thought I would mention it!
Cool site Pete. There are some figures and animals in 1/20 scale. Very western.
The 1/20 listings are all for modern vehicles and only for products that are still in production.
Those modeling in 1/22 or 1/24 should check it out as there is extensive offerings in those scales.
Thanks for the heads up.

I don’t think I can take any credit for that , seems like it might have been Bart or maybe Rooster from way back when chat was going strong .
