1:20.3 Pilot models Barnhart log loader and log cars

These are all new models, developed from the original blueprints. I was the designer of these new models, and as such I built the first pilot model of each kit, or in the case of the log cars I built two.

The log cars were modeled around a Panhandle lumber standard gauge car, correcting to the Barnhart track gauge. These cars will be available as standard gauge and narrow gauge. They will come std. with a Sam’s Semiautomatic link and pin coupler, but can easily be fitted with Accucraft/Kadee couplers below the main frame of the car as I did by adding Accucraft couplers with a custom knuckle that has a slot for links. Thus the cars being offered are narrow gauge. They come with two logging chains and cross over channels to support the loader when moving between cars.

The Barnhart in 1:20.3 scale was a dream of Bob Hartford’s to redo, and he asked me to 3d print the new masters for him prior to his eye sight issues no longer allowed him to work. A short time later I was asked if I would take on the complete project, which I ultimately did.

A lot of things Bob Did on the original were not quite as easy on the 1:20.3 versions. One example was the use of Plastruct channels for the truck, as there was no equivalent in 1:20 scale, so I 3d printed several versions before a good spin cast mold was achieved. The corrugated roof panels ere another fun challenge.

In addition from getting the blueprints from the Pennsylvania logging museum, I made a recon visit there and was able to photograph and crawl over the prototype.

This is without a doubt the most detailed model I have ever designed and built. It has taken over two years of 3d cad work and assembly of the various sub assembly’s as parts became available to complete this model. The body rotates freely around the truck and the chains move thru the pulleys just like the prototype. With care the log tongs and tow cable can be repositioned.

I am asking $2500.00 for the loader and two cars, shipped and insured to US addresses. You can be the first one to own and not have to build this new log loader for your logging operation.

I will consider trades, however I model the RGS in 1:20.32 fine scale, and so only items applicable would be considered. This is one tall loader, and as such will not fit thru my snow sheds, and other clearances on my railroad, otherwise I would probably keep in my fleet.

Serious inquiry’s only please send a PM with your interests. Additional photos available upon request.

I have no info on the cost of any of these kits. Contact Iron Creek Shops for more info. He is intending to debut the kits at the NNGC this year.

Al, your model is truly stunning and literally incredible. It’s beyond “museum quality,” because who the hell walking through a museum would comprehend what they are looking at, and the craftsmanship it took to make the thousands of parts?

With the many hundreds of days you’ve put into the research, design, build, tweaking, etc., your offer is a steal at twice the price, IMO.
