$ 00.80 buildings at Dollar General

Went into town with SWMBO this morning and stopped at the Dollar General Store. Wandering around while She shopped I came across these buildings. They were on sale at 90% discount, so that made them $ 00.80 each. I couldn’t build them for that price. I know they won’t stand up to the weather but I’ll move them in and out as necessary.

You might want to check out your local DG Store for the sale.

The blanket’s not to shabby!
Thanks for the heads up!

Just spray them with a UV protectant clear coat, and keep them out of moisture (rain, dew), they’ll last a few years.

I paid full price last spring for the same two buildings at DG, $8 each. I sprayed them with Krylon clear and they made it through rain and heavy dew. They were in the shed (which is also very damp with Florida humidity) all summer while I spent the summer up north.

If they last a few years that would be fine, I thought $8 was a bargain!

Mike,

Can we see what they look like on your railroad?

Sean, Thanks, the blanket was made by SWMBO out of fleece fabric from Hancock Fabrics.

She’s making another for me out of UP trains pattern fleece she got there.

When she finishes it, I’ll post a photo.

Vic, I should have thought of that… Thanks.

Moisture isn’t much of a problem, we’re in our seventh or eighth year of drouth here.

Mike, I was hoping they’d have some of the peanut trailer’s that had the flamingo’s on them.

I should have bought some at full price, but SWMBO kept telling me I could make them…

90% off was too good a deal to pass on, for the two I purchased.

Great find !! Seasonal chnages at certain retailers historically can be great places to stumble across fantastic discounts !

“…Moisture isn’t much of a problem, we’re in our seventh or eighth year of drouth here…”

the ‘krylon’ also slows down the fading process and probably helps slow down the release of the chinese glue holding the details… imho

I bought some similar buildings from Michael’s and Tuesday Morning. I also sprayed them with polyurethane Lastly, I mounted them on foam insulation board to keep them off the dirt, as water will wick up into the wooden bases.
