Large Scale Central

New trackside details

I was looking for a scratch building project that wouldn’t take months to complete . I wanted more “instant gratification” . So I was looking around and decided I needed some of those little silver sheds and related items for my railroad. One of the sheds will house the 9 volt battery from South Bend Signals that powers my grade crossing. I did a little research and got some pictures and built these items. The main boxes are .080 plastic and Evergreen plastic shapes. These particular sheds can be seen on today’s CSX . They measure 8’ x 10’ and are 8’ 6" tall in the center and 8’ at the sides. The doors are 7’ tall and one is 3’ wide and the other is 2’ 6". I got the silver paint at Ace Hardware. They were fun to build and plan to make a few more .

Those are cool.

I thought those were pictures of the real sheds in a warehouse! You sure fooled me! Nice.

well played

Thanks guys , here is a link to the website I used. http://www.railroadsignals.us/support/auxequip/index.htm#Junction_Boxes_

Nice. Got one of the bigger ones here in Danbury at the downtown crossings that are now all stop and protect. Owned by a struggling short line (The Housatonic) it isn’t kept pained - mostly rust color now (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-undecided.gif)I like yours better (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

i think these good results cry for a description, how you did it.

That is a great link! Thanks.

Here is the little box used to hold the signal battery . It is a simple project made from .080 plastic , a couple of brass eyelets and a short length of brass chain. The cover handle is from a old USA boxcar door. The box is painted grey to simulate concrete and the cover is silver .

wow, even your simple quick projects embarrass those of us who would just cobble something that might follow the 20’ rule ! Nice job Mike your skills are awesome

Too clean … but nice …

They will look weathered after they sit under the snow a few months.

Wow, those look great!! Very realistic!
