Large Scale Central

My elevated layout build.

Progress now that the rain has stopped. Both islands are enclosed and the cap blocks are going on. Bridges are on trial fit. Canyon between the islands will be gravel and Roundup. Right island is the town and yard, left is the mountains/mine/etc. Been buying plants since we moved here in April, knew many would not be around. Lot of mulch also I guess. Guess I still can’t do photos. Did load them to the freight shed. Oh well, maybe Joe will help again.

I don’t know much about this picture posting, but I think the file names need to begin with https://

Yep, same picture uploaded 3 times under 3 different names.

Jerry,

on “the other” forum you got it right.

now you need about two truckloads of “landfill”.

Or, if you’re like me, you need one more truckload than you actually ordered.(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

Looks like its taking shape Jerry. What will the total height of RR be? Later RJD

Yeah, the 14 tons barely filled the small island, so two more truckloads. Hope to have some left over, have a few low spots in the yard. He did some nice steps for each island so I can get in easily, good for old guys. Once I get the rest of the dirt and a load of rocks I should be ready to go. Been buying plants since we moved here in April, knew there would be few this time of the year. Should be fun getting them in and the town and make a good yard. Blocks are 27" high on the low section and 40" high on the other side where the yard slopes down. He put drains in the low side so it should get the water out. Some long black plastic pipes with small holes.

Even need some more in this one. Big blocks weight about 70 lbs each. He used mortar on all of them.

Nice step, one for the other island also.

for a handrail a one step - stairs is too short, but if it were for me, i would plant a four foot post (1" pipe) at one side into the edge of wall and step.

Block work is all done. One more load of dirt(total of 56 tons) and once it is in and some rocks for mountains I can start laying track. You can see two bridges from my old layout that I moved here to use. The two islands design let me use them in the layout. Plus the ‘canyon’ cut out some dirt I have to weed! Will have some hills/mountains and use some of my old buildings. Long process, but I like it and it keeps me busy-which is important.

Thanks David. No hope for me!

Jerry it’s coming along nicely! Get some trains running on a loop at least !(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Jerry, where there is life, there is hope.

Looks good Jerry. I take it that the track will lay on the block caps. How are you going to attached the track? Waiting to see how your yard is going to fit in. BTW your avitar shows Kansas as KN should be KS (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)Later RJD

RJ, I had track on my Nebraska layout, a few Screws into the block with a wire to fit over a tie takes care of it. Over time I took some out, does not need a lot to keep it in place. Yeah, saw the KN, oh well…

That reminds me of that muffler commercial with the woman ( FIX IT ) (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Coming along nicely Jerry.

Got some rocks locally, he helped load/unload and arrange this cliff. Got pretty got so we just tossed the rest in the south end as you can see. Barely got those in and then it rain 2.5" yesterday, IF it ever dries out I plan to put a gravel path around the layout, planting grass this fall. Sure getting antsy to run trains but want to get the islands planted and mulched, plus arrange the rocks. Then put down rail. Might be wearing a parka by the time that happens!
