Well probably a pretty slow speeder.
The boys on the track crew were tired of pumping that old hand car up and down the line for work, so Saturday morning they showed up at the shop and did a little head scratching, arguin’, and banging around to see what they could come up with.
First they ripped off all the hand pump handles and mounted an old Hit-n-Miss engine to the bed then found an old piece of belting that would work just fine. Earl took the seat out of a wrecked Ford that was sittin’ out back of the shop and stuck on the “front?”
Leon cobbled up a tool box and stuck on the side, said he “thought it looked pretty good there”. Mr Hansen, the crew foreman, figured maybe some brakes might be a good idea so a lever was hooked up to an axle drum for that. Then they added a lever hooked to an idler pulley on the drive belt to act as a clutch and figured they were in business.
Heck by mid afternoon they were runnen’ her up and down the shop lead, slapping each other on the back and haven’ a beer. Bobby, the kid on the crew, ran home and borrowed his mom’s Brownie camera and snapped a couple pitchers for ya. All the crew declined havin’ their pitcher took with it just in case Mr Pelfrey, the Superintendent, didn’t approve of the new piece of motive power, said they didn’t want no proof it was them that done it.
So here is some pictures without the proud designers.
Thanks for taking a look
