WRI 2018

The Educational Railroading Conference Leader Since 1994

24th ANNUAL WHEEL RAIL INTERACTION CONFERENCE

Coming to Chicago April 30-May 3, 2018 • Crowne Plaza O’Hare

Who should attend the Conference?

The Wheel/Rail Interaction Conference is truly multi-disciplinary, featuring three individual events (the Rail Transit seminar, the Principles Course and the Heavy Haul seminar) held back-to-back at the Hotel.

Many facets of wheel/rail interaction are explored. Professionals from a variety of related fields, from front-line supervisors to top-level managers, will benefit from attending. Each event offers a wealth of valuable insight, face-to-face interaction and exploration of the cutting-edge technologies. You won’t find this unique combination of in-depth content and networking opportunity anywhere else.

I actually went to the site, but it’s so full of double-speak. Heck, even the title of WRI doesn’t sound very exciting.

Well, perhaps exciting is an overstatement for the WRI, but the real problem is the date! It’s just too close to RGS Ops - which is scheduled the weekend right before WRI (and Ken’s is much closer in distance, at least to me). I do believe that Ken’s session will be significantly cheaper as well (UNLESS he notes the prices of the WRI and decides to even things up a bit. I still don’t know how these things find me; it is interesting to be me and to see what crosses my path.

Find you? … Probably because they saw your front door wide open and you a wavin’!(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

My thought the other day was Too much time… [takes one to know one, eh?]

The Wheelie guys are pros that Trains mag, IIRC, brought together several years ago… not to educate the readers, rather to help the industry communicate.

By their (Trains mag) association, they offer their readers a chance to attend, but I doubt if they care about our experiences with Aristo wheels!(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

That first one could well be metaphorically true. The second one is sometimes literally true when my body with half a dozen neurological, endocrine, and musculoskeletal diseases, isn’t playing well with my desires.

Such as right now when I’m trying to discern whether I’m good for driving the 2 miles to model train club and hanging out for a bit - not yet certain whether ability to concentrate or physical coordination are up to the driving. Can be said that they usually are not on about 1/3, randomly, of the days in a month.

And somewhere on half-buried overflowing bookshelf on opposite wall there is a book from CERA, Central Electric Railfans’ Association in which there are a number of pages with content of a technical report a while back on wheel profiles and their effects; and wheel tracking in various types of trucks.
