Large Scale Central

Signature posting

I have had trouble with this before. For some reason I can’t figure out why I can’t get a signature to show up. In the box I put

{img}http://freightsheds.largescalecentral.com/users/devon_sinsley/Signature.png{/img} only with brackets (I can’t put the brackets here because it actually works here and put the picture. So I know I have the code right).

why is this not allowing me to post this picture

as my signature.

I know there is a size limit on the signature pictures. Maybe yours exceeds that limit. I don’t know

Ah maybe thats it. I will try making it smaller.

OK I don’t think that is it. It is 45KB now and still wont show up. Unless its physical size is to big.

the above picture was entered using the bbcode not the regular way so I know I am coding it right.

Is it physically to big?

Devon,

Try this code and check it out in my sig below…

<*img src=“http://freightsheds.largescalecentral.com/users/devon_sinsley/new avatar.jpg” alt="">

*remove the asterisk, and avoid using spaces in the file name

No nothing I try seems to work. Should I still be using the [img][/img]?

I tried taking out every space. I don’t know. This picture thing kills me. What I find odd is tha the code I am using makes the picture show up in the thread just fine. Why not the signature line.

As for the code your using I put it in there serveral ways. I put it in there exactly as you have it minus the asterisk. I did it minus the Asterisk and any spaces I could find. I tried it with the [] img nonsense. I don’t understand the whole code thing really. So I am not sure what I a doing wrong. Why I can post it in one place but not another.

Devon,

Are you inserting the code I gave you in the signature part of the user dashboard? Are you inserting the code in the dashboard after clicking on the <> button? That is where this HTML code belongs. As you can see, your signature works in my signature using this code.

Devon,

Do you understand that there are two different codes that can be used on this forum?

I gave you HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language). It uses <>. BBcode (Bulletin Board) uses []. You can not mix them, but Bob has both activated on this web site. They both can be used in the signature app.

Devon,

I love your logo. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

I’m glad we got it working for you. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Devon, please re-read my post to you about the TWO sizes associated with a picture… you have indicated the “storage size” in this thread, but NOT the “physical” size in pixels.

Joe’s logo is 79 pixels (horizontally) by 125 tall.

But that’s not your problem.

It could be the space in the file name… new avatar.jpg… NEVER embed spaces in a file name, just trust me… rename the file with an underscore instead… new_avatar.jpg

Also your file is 401 by 175 pixels… maybe too tall… I forgot what the forum rules are about HUGE signatures… they are indeed obnoxious…

my signature is over 50kB storage, so it’s not the “storage size”

Greg

Greg,

We got it done as stated above. Devon’s signature is just fine now. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

I was just making a mess of it. But you do raise a good point about saving file names without spaces. I will have to start doing this. Thanks Everyone especially Joe for fixing it for me. I finally have a personal RR so I needed to get my logo on there. I don’t think its obnoxiously huge is it?

Devon,

It’s just fine, and actually smaller than some! (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

So, to help the others reading this thread, was it the BBS // HTML code, and not the file at all?

Greg

Greg,

It was not the file size or name or spaces. I used HTML code and it worked fine. I suspect it was only “operator error”. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

I did reduce it’s proportions by 10% so it looked better in the posts, but it worked at it’s original size also.

OK now I am really confused. So Korm pointed out a glaring issue that mountain was misspelled in my logo. So I had Stan fix it and is reprinting the logo for me. He also sent me a jpeg file of it. So I wanted to change my signature. I deleted all of the stuff out of the signature box and hit save; so it was empty. Yet the logo still appeared. Then I saved the new signature file as

http://freightsheds.largescalecentral.com/users/devon_sinsley/Signature.jpg

and then tried to put the new code in. It didn’t work yet again. No spaces no nothing.

The code works here but again not in my signature line. Joe you may need to fix it for me and then I will need to write down how your doing it. Because I just don’t get it obviously. Why is the old signature showing up when the code for it is completely gone?

I don’t know what happened but its right now.

Devon,

I fixed it for you. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

So Joe, the simple answer to my question was that the BBS and/or the HTML code was wrong?

I’ve struggled with the signature line myself, so I wanted to learn.
