Large Scale Central

Build and Add a Grain Elevator

We have one place that needs a siding and a reason for it. On the back of you Dutch Barn look like we found a good place by to the Bakers Acre yard area.

Here is what we are kind of going for.

We scaling it down and adding a small whrs. for Box cars loads.

Here is what we have done today.

Anyway it a start and lots yet to do on it.

This is going to be mounted onto a painted back drop and screwed on the Dutch Barn

Then we’ll cut in Track Sw. off of the raised main to the new area.

That looks a very promising model Noel it is always good to have an interesting industry to serve. I built a lumber version, without silos and I notice your guys can work in the dry having a covered loading bay - mine can get wet. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)I see you are using boxcars for shipment. I do, those long grain cars - out of my time era - are lovely, but expensive.

Nice building, Noel…

Looking good Noel!

what is it? about three foot long?

looks promising.

Nice Noel. Where did you get your windows from? I’m in need of some for a barn my wife wants for the layout.

TK’s guys…

Korm. it’ going to be around 5 -1/2 foot long. There’s going to be a 8 foot mural on the back of the Dutch Barn and not sure how, but try to make rolling hills with wheat fields with Oak trees in the background. Least that what I’m going to try to do. The Grain Elev. will be screwed to it as it’s just a 3-D face build.

Alan L. Was hoping for at least one box car space at loading dock and at the elev. will have a cover shed for one cover hopper car…

If can get it in, on left side build a truck grain lift if it will fit.

Something like this.

Chuck… I had a guy from the SVGRS That had access to a 3-D printer at a Liberty. He made these and took 3 hrs to do what you see. lol.

Not to sure this is the way to go.

I printed those windows. Noel, they look very nice on your building! I’m not totally convinced that 3D printing is the next great thing, but for a few of anything right now, they can’t be beat! I am learning to make better ones. Yesterday I designed a replacement window casing for a Piko train station. When I get to the library later this week, I’ll print it to see if it fits!

Noel, it looks very impressive! I look forward to following the build.

They do that same thing at the potato chip plant up the road. Open the doors, back onto the ramp and it lifts the whole truck up and dumps the load. First time I’ve seen it modeled. Pretty Kewl!

They worked out great Richard. By make the window outside frame little larger, it fits in with out much trouble and cover up crooked cut out I did.

Ken B… Any change you can get a photo on it to see how the cyl. is mounted to raise the truck?

I can do that. Hopefully the local freight will be working there too.

I’ll run up later today.

You were in luck. There was a truck being unloaded as I pulled in.

If you need any more detailed pictures, let me know. I didn’t want to get to close because of the truck traffic going back and forth.

Noel there is one in Lincoln next to Thunder Valley Casino. Sevice road from TVC parking lot IIRC.

Hey Ken… That’s some great photos… Now I can get back to the elevator building. I have some of it done, but was not sure how the cyl.s was located.

I’ll post a photo of what I got so far in a few.

Jim H. Thanks. for the infor.

Get a chance… swing by for a min. and I’ll show you where it going and what is built so far. You can help me fig. out a name on it.

Here is the start of the truck elevator to be attached to the main build.

This is after second coat of pain on main building.

The building is setting on the back drops that just has the basis paint on them. All three pc. with make it 42 inch high to go on the back of the Grain Elevator.

Lookin good, Noel… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

It’s a giant L-shaped rig that you back on and once past the A-frame, you can open the doors to the trailer. Then back down to the cushions on the vertical section of the L, set the brakes, get clear of the truck then up she goes. Just gotta make sure everything’s off the dash board or it ends up on the floor…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
